Tell me about your behavior plan...
I am considering trying something new this year. Looking for something that requires little work on my part so that I don't have trouble keeping up with it. Specifically what are your rewards/consequences? I teach 3rd grade.

Re: Tell me about your behavior plan...
I teach 1 st grade.
I have a green yellow red behavior system. Kids start on green and if they do the wrong thing etc they move from green to yellow to red (good behavior can move back to yellow or green). I do this with frogs but can be done with cards. I tell them to move their frog, upper grades usually do turn your card.
In their folder a chart of squares (with frogs inside). At the end of the day they color in the color they ended the day on. Reds get a note home, parents have to sign.
Good behavior is rewarded with tickets. Sharing, being helpful, ending on green, all earn a ticket. For every 10 tickets they get 5 checks on a classroon incentive chart. When the row is filled they get a homework pass and theirrow gets cleared.

Re: Tell me about your behavior plan...
My rules and consequences are very simple and easy to follow... I try to follow a program called responsive classroom...u can google it and find a ton of info. You should only have 3-4 broad rules so that anything they do wrong will fall into one of those rules...
Ex. Take care of your classroom Take care of yourself Respect each other
Logical consequences...
You break it you fix it loss of privilege take a break
So for example...if Johnny is talking on the carpet...you say Johnny you are not respecting your friends right now you broke a rule...Go take a break...Johnny should know that he must leave the carpet and go to the thinking seat.
All of these rules and consequences should be modeled at the beginning of the year so that they know exactly what to expect and their aren't any surprises.

Re: Tell me about your behavior plan...
I have used the green, yellow, & red behavior system and always had good success with it.
Keeping sticker charts on the student's desks is easy and it is a constant reminder for them to be on their best behavior.
You can have a "caught you being good" tree and when a student does something positive, add a leaf to their own individual branch.
If you want to do a whole class behavior mod. you can start with an empty graphic of a pizza pie and have them collect all the slices until they earn their way to a pizza party. Or you can also have them earn popcorn pieces for a movie party.

Individual-I am doing something new this year that I saw in really good stuff. They are earn and return cards. For 10 star punches they earn a prize. I do secret student. At the end of the day, the ss gets a sticker if they had a good day AND earn table points.
Table points...most points earns a prize for those children.
Bean jar-this is a class reward system. Half way earns a movie party, all the way earns an ice cream party.
