So based on spending 25,000 per kid per year, which probably grossly underestimates what college will cost in 14 years, we would need to save almost 600 a month which is more than we are currently saving in the college accounts.

My cousin is starting college this month and I couldn't believe how expensive some of the schools were - and then room and board was just as expensive as tuition on top of it! Luckily he was accepted into an honors college program and they pay for his tuition.

In case anyone didn't know and wanted to consider it, most private universities offer tuition remission to the immediate families of employees. My mom is a secretary at a private university so my brother and I got our undergraduate degrees for free. It was 25% off for each year of service, so starting at year 4 of employment it was free. Everyone from the custodians up to the President of the University qualify.

Children only get a free undergrad degree, the employee and their spouse can both get undergrad and grad degrees.

Another reason I wish we lived in Europe. It really wouldn't take much for me to up and leave.
