Dumb Question
Why does my male dog pee while squatting? I thought all males lift their leg.

Re: Dumb Question
all my male dogs (3) squatted for the longest time - they only ever saw my female go and she squats - so they did what she did.
Around 2 years old, the one started lifting his leg sometimes, I think he is starting to feel like he needs to be the dominant in the pack and mark his territory, even though my female is really the dominant.
Count your blessings, he keeps lifting his leg on my flowers and I want to kill him!

Re: Dumb Question
My male dog squats and so does my sisters two dogs and my parents dog.
I asked my vet and she said not all dogs will lift their legs.

Re: Dumb Question
I had a female dog growing up and she always squatted...but whenever she was around male dogs for a while, she would start lifting her leg!

Re: Dumb Question
Ok then it is normal then? I only had female dogs and DH's male dog had always lifted his leg.
I was wondering if something was wrong with him

Re: Dumb Question
I tell you my dog is such a weirdo. She lifts her legs to pee. I think she's gay, she also will not let any male dogs near her, only female dogs. Hmm, interesting.

Re: Dumb Question
My male dog squatted when he was younger. Now he lifts. In fact, he lifts his leg so obnoxiously high that sometimes he nearly topples over.
ETA: And strangely enough, he likes to back up onto things to poop on them. For example, when we're on a walk he'll back up onto a tree trunk so his back legs are off the ground and poop on it. He's *always* done this though. He actually once backed up onto my IL's coffee table and pooped on it.

Your dog sounds like mine. Riker topples over all the time and even occasionally pees on his opposite front leg from the high lift. He too also will lift a back leg on a tree while on a walk but not in the yard.
