PLEASE Come In If You've Been Excessed re: Being given an actual classroom in the place you are being sent to...

Im a NYC Teacher, I was just told I MAY get a classroom (Teacher on maternity leave) at the school I am being sent to. I also see that it states I'm only at this school for one month and then thereafter will be sent to different schools in the district weekly. How does this work? Am I expected to go there on the first day and set up this classroom? Buy materials? Etc? PLEASE, tell me no! Tomorrow, I am going to my OLD school (where I was excessed after 10 years) having to have rented a van for $150 and go get my things and then store the in STORAGE for another $80/month--a total nightmare.

Please, input to those who are/were also excessed in NYC and were given a classroom.

how did you hear you were given a classroom? did the principal reach out to you?!

DH was also excessed after 10 years at his school and got an email to go to a middle school but it didn't say anything about having an actual classroom. It just said he may be there for one month and they may send him on interviews.

One thing I've learned is that they cannot force you to take a job in another district...you can stay in your district and they have to use you somewhere within the district.

I would NOT buy any supplies or decorations unless absolutely necessary (index cards, pencils, etc). Especially since this won't be any type of long term investment. How much stuff do you have?!?!?!? I've been teaching for 10 years too, but storage? A rental van? Yikes!! Any way to go through and weed out some stuff? Best of luck!
