A sad lovey story and two questions I might not want to know the answer to...
My oldest DD loves stuffed animals and sleeps with oh...about 50 million of them. She just turned six yesterday. But her absolute favorite is a pink dog that she got as a gift when her sister was born over four years ago--Doggie. She hugs Doggie all night long, brings her down in the morning with her and takes her on all trips, etc.
Tonight as I was putting the girls to bed, K realized she didn't have Doggie. I told her to run down and get her...not there. Then I went down and we scoured every inch. Nowhere to be found. I told her she might have to sleep without Doggie. Her chin started quivering and she broke into tears. "I can't sleep without Doggie!!" she cried. I admit, I cried too. I gave her a substitute--Buddy, Doggie's bear friend that was purchased along with Doggie when A was born...same color and fur. I told her I'd continue looking while she slept. I KNOW with 99% certainty that Doggie isn't gone, just misplaced, but as sentimental as I am I am broken up over the fact that this is her first night without her.
When she said, "I can't sleep without Doggie," I prayed she wouldn't realize that she can.
So my question...sigh...when did your DC give up his/her loveys?
Second question...I really sound insane don't I?

I *totally* get where you are coming from! Emily has a "lovey" named Mimi---a tiny little pink soft doll that she named after herself when she was a baby. See, when she was about one, she called herself "Mimi" instead of "Emme" which we called her as a nickname. She named Mimi after herself which we thought was so funny, but the name has stuck. So much that the 3 year old who we babysit for has an almost identical doll that she sleeps with at night, and she named her Mimi too. Lol, Mimi is a big part of our household.
So I can imagine what both of you are going through. I hope the night goes well, and that Doggie shows up soon!!

Lauren is 5 and still has her Rae Rae (it's a stuffed bunny that was a baby teether). Luckily, I was smart back then and bought several to keep on hand, since they were only $5 and are no where to be sold anymore.
Well, I know have 4 that are brand new because she won't touch them! She only wants the original, which is so "loved" it's actually gross.
There have been nights here as well where we couldn't find Rae Rae and she wouldn't go to sleep. He's been found each time, and now she is even more careful about leaving him in her bed so he doesn't get lost.
She will never give him up. My sister is 31 and still sleeps with her childhood Pound Puppy.

My 22 year old cousin has her "dog dog" in bed with every night still. She went on a roadtrip to MA a couple weeks ago and left it in the hotel. They had to rush and call before housekeeping arrived and tossed it. My sister then went and picked it up and shipped it to her. Some lovelys stick around a lifetime.

My daughter is 4 & still sleeps with "baby" every night (a pink bunny w/ a blankie attached). It is all ready on it's last leg & she asks if baby will last forever.

Well, Doggie was found this morning...in the attic. Just before she was found I asked DD if she took her food shopping with us yesterday. She replied, "No, Mom...only *babies* carry their animals everywhere ." Five minutes later when DH found Doggie she exclaimed, "Doggie! You're back!"
And also, you can add me to the list of "lovey sleepers." The one big difference is that I actually got mine when I was around 26.

DD has a pink rag doll named Pink Baby. She got it when she was born. She is attached to it to say the least. It has gone on every single vacation we have went on, been food shopping with us, on car rides, etc etc. She forgot it at my Dads one night. I thought she would be fine...she wasnt. She was up all night long. Kept waking me saying things like "I miss Pink Baby!!", "I wonder what pink Baby is doing right now" That night showed me how attached she really is. She even has brought Pink Baby in her backpack the last 2 days because she just started kindergarten and its been rough at the bus for her, lots of tears. I dont see her "giving it up" anytime soon. I think its adorable when I go in at night to check on her and she is clinging to the baby. But, I worry if it ever gets lost what will happen. Its already been ripped - re sewed, its gross. LOL. Glad Doggie was found!!!!

I have to crash and say that at 25, my lovey Jacques the dog still resides in my bed, and my other lovey, Mema the doll, sits on my dresser all the time, so it may be a long, long while.
