Two mommies/daddies "lesson" in pre-k
My DD is 4 and in Pre-K in our district. I asked her what she learned today, and she told me that she learned that some kids have two mommies and some have two daddies. It was kind of matter of fact and I just left it at that and just left it alone and agreed with her that what she learned was right.
My question is - Do all public schools teach this so young? Are parents given any heads up about what is discussed in the classrooms (ie. - what's next?)
Thanks for any input.

They were probably discussing their families, and I would bet there is someone in the class with that family setup. So instead of essentially leaving them out, it was brought up. I don't think this is a big deal AT ALL. It's not like they are discussing sex ed in pre-k

Yes, I don't see the issue. My DD went to pre-K with a little girl who has 2 dads, and is going to kindegarten with a little boy who has 2 moms. Would you want those kids excluded from a lesson about families? Of course not. Just like I wouldn't want the kid who lives with his grandparents, or a single mom or dad, or whatever, to be excluded.
I'm sure the point of the lesson wasn't "There are gay people." The point was, "There are all different kinds of families."

I agree.
At one point, my daughter volunteered that some families only have grandparents & kids, so I assumed someone's mom & dad were not around.

I completely agree with this. DS1 had a little girl with 2 mommies when he was in the 2s and a different little girl with 2 daddies when he was in the 3s. I am SO glad that he encountered this at such a young age and doesn't even know to question why. Just like there are couples of different races, religions, colors, there are some couples that are the same sex!
