D&C?
I posted about our loss on the IF board. I was just wondering--- those of you who had d&c's... where did you have yours done? My dr wants me to have one for our twins, even though I'm only 7w2d, to find out if it was something genetic that caused this.
I really don't want to go thru this, but I know we need to know, so it has to be done. My mom informed me that my OB has stopped doing them, and honestly I don't want any of the local drs out here doing it... I feel like most of them don't have the most up to date equipment and I looked up suction D&Cs vs. scalpel D&Cs...
I was considering calling the hospital at Stony Brook to see if someone there could do it. I noticed that Dr. Ogburn deals with etopic pregnancies, so I thought maybe he does them. Just wondering where everyone had theirs done. Dr. B told me Dr. Pilliteri could do it but not until Wednesday and I really don't want to wait that long. My body has been cramping and what almost feels like contracting for the past few hours... Thank you....

Re: D&C?
First let me say I am so terribly sorry for your loss. My heart aches for you because I have been there recently and I cant even imagine losing twins.
An ob in my practice performed my d&c. They actually perform them right in their office. So that is where I had mine done. I found out I miscarried on a Tuesday and I had my d&c that Saturday. They wanted me to come in as early as possible incase I started bleeding on my own ( which I never did), but I wanted to go in on a Saturday.
I would go with who your doc is reccomending. Best of luck to you

Re: D&C?
We lost the triplets at almost the same point. By the time we saw there were no heartbeats, it was 7wk5d. The d&c took place when I should have been 8wks. I used Dr.Pilliterri at Good Sam based on Dr.B's recommendation.
I honestly didn't love Dr.P but I did LOVE the hospital. I mean- granted we were there for a horrible reason.. but the staff was amazing. I unfortunately had something to compare it to because when I went for my d&e over a year ago, they were horrible to me. They were literally CRUEL for reasons I will never understand. That was at Mt.Sinai and I hope to never have to go back there for anything ever! Anyway Good Sam's staff was like a godsend. If you could hold out till Wednesday, at least know you will be in good hands. I found Dr.P himself had a crappy bedside manner, but at least I barely saw him.
I am so so sorry..

Re: D&C?
will first say Im so sorry your going through this. I miscarried last week at 8w when I shld have been 10 (no heartbeat) did not miscarry naturally so Dr set me up for a D&C the very next day (I was lucky dr was sceduled to be at Hsp the next day) so I did not have to wait long. My surgery was at Southampton Hospital and they were awesome, caring, loving, understanding. Did your Dr recommend a Dr to do the surgery? This is such a devistating time and I wish you well, its hard to get through Im still have bad moments but each day it gets a lil easier.

Re: D&C?
I'm so sorry for your loss.
I just had a D&C on Friday. I had it done at North Shore's ambulatory unit with my regular OB. My OB used the suction technique (no scraping). I have to say, the process itself was really not that bad, and I had NO pain afterwards and as of now, minimal bleeding.
Also, I found out about my loss on Monday (should have been 11 weeks, baby measured 10 weeks w/ no heartbeat) and had the D&C on Friday. I bled a little in between, but nothing that required more than a panty liner.
Again, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this.

Re: D&C?
dr pilitieri at good sam. i felt the same wasy as pennycat about him..but he did a good job kwim and the hospital was great. i think most drs will have you wait a few days bc they have to do presurgical testing before the procedure. just make sure you get general anasthesia so you dont have to be aware of anything. again i am so so sorry!

Re: D&C?
Shannon, I've had 4 D&Cs. I've had both techniques as well. Speak with your dr. to see which they will do. I believe because I was farther along for some that I had the scrapping because of the placenta forming and attaching. Dr. Pillitteri is my Ob/Gyn, he's done two of them. Jackie is right, the staff at Good Sam is wonderful, from the waiting room nurses to the OR nurses to the post OP nurses, all of them were great. I was just there in July for a Lap and I literally had a private nurse in the post OP.
Even if you are cramping and bleeding, you might not have a full miscarriage. For me, my first, I still went in to have the D&C (even though I lost everything on my own) for precautionary measures to prevent any other complications, molar pregnancy, etc. It turns out I still had tissue that needed to be removed.

Re: D&C?
I am so, so sorry for your loss.
My OB performed my D&C at Huntington and for how terrible the whole experience was emotionally, physically it wasn't that bad at all, and everyone at Huntington was amazing to me. I hope to never repeat the experience, but if I ever have to I would hope to encounter the same nurses and staff. I was fortunate in that they were able to get me in the day after I found out that it was over as well. I couldn't imagine waiting once I knew.
There are no words, only time will make you feel better (as "better" as you will ever be) - and take as much of it as you need.

Re: D&C?
I am so sorry for your loss. I've had 3 D&C's for all of my losses, but not on LI. I went to Mt. Sinai for all 3. I know a PP mentioned that she hated it there, but I felt as if I was in good hands (I feel awful that the PP was treated rudely - that is NOT the situation for medical personel to be unkind and I hope she reported her bad experience). Have you called your OB's office to see if they can recommend someone?
