I have an interview - I need help!
I have an interview scheduled and have to admit I have not been on an interview in a very, very , very long time. I do not know what to expect or the proper behavior. Are there things I should not ask about? Other than bringing some extra copies of my resume, is there anything else I should bring? How long can I expect a first interview to last? I believe I should send a thank you note - is it okay to send it by email? Is a phone call good enough?
Someone please give me some basic guidelines - TIA.

The length of the interview will vary - the longer, the better IMO!
Yes, bring extra copies of your resume. I like hand writing personal thank you cards after an interview. Just make sure, if you do this, that you get the card out that day or the day after at the latest.

just ask for a business card. they will probably give you one anyway on their own.
I would also come with questions that are relevant to the position.

One tactic I always use during an interview, is to try and reverse the interview.
I make it seem like I am interviewing the company, basically by asking them key questions.
Remember, in the end, YOU are deciding to work for the company if they give you the offer.

This. Also focus on questions about issues that may be a deal-breaker for you.
I know some companies are not going to come out and tell you some of the negatives of the position.
Things I have learned to asked are:
1.) Health benefits. How much is per employee and family members. I would request something in writing and not just go by what they tell you during the interview.
2.) How much travel is involved and to where. Do you have to use your own vehicle or can you expense things like rental cars?
3.) What are the typical work hours. Are you expected to be on-call?
4.) Examples of random things that may come up that you could be responsible for. (This is big because stuff comes up everywhere that is really no one's responsibility per se but sometimes you have to suck it up and do it).
5.) Why did the past employee leave?
6.) Amount of supervision and who you would report to.
These are the big ones off the top of my head based on my current experiences, and things that are asked about my employer.
