EXCESSED NYC TEACHERS COME IN...
Would you believe I am Early Childhood Certified and they have me going to a middle school next week? I don't get it, how I am supposed to TEACH let's say 7th grade Math when I don't know it? I have a Pre-K/K background, this is absurd!

Isn't a childhood ed degree technically K-6? They could have you in a 6th grade room.
I understand that has to be frustrating though. My guidance certification is K-12, but I've only worked in high schools. If I were sent to an elementary school, I wouldn't know where to start. Hang in there!

I would assume you are teaching 6th grade, which is definitely covered by your degree.
Stinks if you haven't taught it for a while, but hopefully it will be just one or two preps.

Early childhood is Birth through 2nd grade. So, no she is not certified for middle school. Early childhood is b-2, childhood is 1-6.
I have no idea how they can let you teach that grade. Although, I am special ed. certified and certified 1-6 and they are letting me teach prek and K this year. I do have the other certifications, but I am teaching under the other certifications. They said something like you have a year to teach out of your certification.

Can't you work one year out of your certification?
Even so, that is just ridiculous! Are they placing you there for the year or are you subbing?
