Die cutters like the Cricut..

Im interested in buying one of these to do some die cut tags/invites.

I think the new one out is the Cricut Expression (which does vinyl too?)

If you have a Cricut machine can you tell me how you like it? how easy/hard it is to operate, and whats the deal with the software?

Thanks!

Re: Die cutters like the Cricut..

I have a Cricut. The Expression - not the 5th anniversary edition that just came out a few months ago - the first Expression. The Imagine - prints and cuts and is very expensive.

Cricut machines cut using cricut cartridges. They retail for $39.99, $59.99 or $89.99, but are often on sale. The only images you can cut are the ones on the cartridges.

As for software - there are two software programs that work with other die cutting machines. Those programs are Make the Cut, and Sure Cuts A Lot. They allow you to cut svg files using different die cutting machines. You can google either software name for their respective websites and a list of which machines they are compatible with.

I got my Cricut for Christmas. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have gotten a different machine.

ITA. BUT, I purchased the Xyron (I think that's how it's spelled!) machine and it was terrible. I don't have the cricut or any other cutting machine, but I definitely do not recommend the xyron.

I like my Cricut Expression (and I started playing with vinyl recently), but I do agree with what others have posted. You're limited to Provocraft's cartridges. I buy my carts online whenever I see a good sale. To design, I use a Gypsy. I find it easy to use, and it serves my purposes for now. However, I do have my eye on the Silhouette Cameo in the future Chat Icon

The Wishblade? I don't know that much about that cutter. I have a TON of stuff from Xyron (mostly adhesive) which totally rocks.

I would look into the new Silhouette CAMEO. The original Silhouette gets really good reviews but the new machine now cuts up to 12 inches - it cuts paper, vinyl, fabric etc.

Check it out.

I was just reading about it on 2Ps - people there pre-ordered from OhMyCraft.com and it's going to start shipping tomorrow.

I want this machine so badly. It looks awesome. (Is it wrong to wish my expression an early death? Chat Icon )

I want it too. Is there any benefit to keeping the Expression and buying a Silhouette Cameo, or would I be better off selling the Expression and getting a Cameo?

I've been eyeing this one too. Seems ideal for what I want it for
