Xmas gift help - NintendoDS

My 4 1/2 yr old DS wants a DS for xmas and when I started looking for them realized there are 3 different kids - there is a DSi XL, 3D, and Lite. What is the difference? Which do i choose? TIA

I bought my son the DSI last year for christmas, he was 4 at the time. The Lite is the olderst version, the DSI has a camera, internet capabilities and ability to sync and play with friends. The XL is a bigger version of the DSI and the 3D is the newest one. He really likes it and a few of his friends have the DSI as well.

We are probably getting Emily the DSi XL for Christmas, which I think is the newest one. To be honest I have no interest in her using the internet on it or taking pictures but my husband feels strongly against her getting the 3D one, and not all games are available in the 3D version!

my two lil ones got ds lite last year for xmas. I ws just told by the salesman at bestbuy the lite is discontinued. I woould go with the next one up-its slightly bigger screen. They r too little for the more expensive one, and certainly don't need the internet option

The 3D plays every DS game, plus the 3D ones. I have a 3DS and so does my son. I like it because I can play all of our old DSi games, plus all of the new 3DS games. There is also a slide switch on the 3DS so you can minimize, or completely turn off the 3D effect, making it exactly the same as a DSi, but able to play more games.

Very interesting. I didn't know that.

I guess it is between the 3D and the DSiXL then, I wonder if anyone can talk about the difference between the two!

The DSi XL is essentially the same as the DSi, just a little bit bigger. Both the case and the screen. The 3DS is almost the exact same physical size as the DSi.

They all play all the DS games, have the same touch screen on the bottom. The 3DS has an analog joystick that they added, which I like using. It still has the other buttons as the regular DS game systems as well.

I originally got DS a DSi, since I didn't think he needed the bigger screen and the bigger case. It's easier to put in a pocket (or your pocketbook when they don't feel like carrying it anymore... Chat Icon Chat Icon ). It does everything the DSi XL does, it's just smaller.

For a 4yo, I would probably skip the 3DS for a while. Maybe as a replacement system in a few years.

The DSi is the cheapest of the DSi, DSi XL and the 3DS.

My DD is 6. She says she is the only kid in her class that doesn't have a DS. She loves to lay on the guilt!

I am thinking we'll go with the DS XL.

Ds has dsi xl and dh bought him 3ds for the hospital (he's longing for mariokart7) He so wanted the 3ds, but lost any interest in it with the iPad. (a gift from my coworkers)

Good to know you can turn off the 3d...I hate it. I like the bigger screen of the ds.

We just have too much!
