Anyone have a d&c with out being knocked out?
I'm asking for a family member who Dr said she has the option to do it in office taking 3 aspirins. She wasnt fure because she thought there was a reason for being put out. Any insight would help

I did.
And i didn't take any medication before. But I had started miscarrying on my own but there was still a lot of tissue left.
It was uncomfortable, but totally bearable pain wise. It was just a very unsettling feeling being awake and feeling what they are doing. I was by myself and the nurse felt so bad for me, but for me it was the better choice than going to the hospital.
I don't want to post too many details on here, so FM me if you want more info!

i didnt but i dont think i would have been able to do it mentally. all i wanted that day was to be knocked out so i could get through a few hours without feeling that mental anguish. i think being awake for the procedure would have made it a zillion times worse. of course, you dont know what you can handle until its given to you, and many girls here have been through natural m/cs and came out fine, it's just food for thought.

it was def rough mentally. physically it was not great, but manageable. but mentally is was draining. i had already miscarried at home, but it was still a lot to handle.

mine was done in the doctors office, but I was knocked out. My ob performs surgeries in their office so I did not have to go to the hospitol. I would not have been able to go through it awake. I had the same question as you though before my d&c, because I had never been put out before and I was terrified !! Good luck to your family

My Dr attempted to get some tissue that she could see in her office and it was really intense... i was close to passing out, i get the same feeling when i get blood taken when im not laying down... id never opt to do that again if i didnt have to.

Totally agree. By the time I got nto the OR I was ready to get a break from reality. I couldn't imagine being awake.

I did it twice...just ibuprofen an hour before and local anesthesia. It was uncomfortable but the pain was manageable. Mentally it was not easy. Went by myself the 2nd time since they had a last minute cancelation and actually went back to work afterwards...I know that sounds crazy but that is what I needed to do at the time, I think I needed to keep myself occupied.

I had a D&C with a spinal. I was awake and chatting throughout the whole thng. I delivered the product, but the placenta was stuck, so I was rushed down to the operating theatre to have it removed. I can't imagine having one with 3 asprins...
