How did Trick or Treating go?

He had ZERO interest this year, which surprised me. He went last year, but since it was the weekend, we went with other kids and I think that got him interested.

He refused to wear the costume at school for TOTing, but did put it on for the Halloween parade (they told him I was coming and got him to put it on for me - love him!) Then, he wore it in the car on the way home, but ripped it off the minute we got home. He had on a skeleton shirt, so we went out in that. It was a series of negotiations, had to use the wagon to get him to go out at all, then I couldn't put anything in the wagon with him. I finally convinced him to go to a couple of houses and we went home.

Then he woke up this morning and said "want to wear my costume? want to trick or treat?" Chat Icon I guess we should start the prompting earlier next year. Chat Icon

Re: How did Trick or Treating go?

went well. Chris LOVED his angry bird costume. We went with his brother and neighbors....we were able to let him go by himself to the door and he did great. Last year he kept wanting to go into their house, this year he picked out the candy he wanted (although he doesnt eat it) and said thank you.

Today he wanted to take his plush red angry bird to schoolChat Icon

Good this year. He actually said ToT at each house and either thank you or Happy Halloween. It took some prompting usually, but I was proud of him all the same. Talking to people he doesn't know is not easy for him. We went to his party at his daycare, then he wanted to go home and didn't want to ToT at first. But later (after a few kids came to our door) he wanted to go.

The costume was okay, he didn't wear the hood (a dinosaur), but I didn't think he would. It was basically a big body suit, and I left his other clothes under it so it didn't irritate skin.

We did practice saying ToT and the routine--he actually liked it and saw it as a game. So that may have helped. He was funny at one house, a woman gave him several pieces of candy, and he told her "I'm only supposed to take one."

DS did great! Loved running up the driveways and walkways.

With some prompting he'd say "Trick or Treat" , but, said "Thanks" a lot more independently.

We went with my brother, SIL, and nephews. They had a great time.

DS picked out pretzels if offered and the candy that he liked the wrappers of. LOL
This kid won't even lick a lolipop. I really shouldn't complain. LOL

It really was a great day.

Next year, I Chat Icon DD is walking, so, she can enjoy it even more too! Chat Icon

Sorry he didn't have interest in it. My 3 year old (PDD) loved it. He was a lion and dragged his blanket up and down the block. (DH said what is he the cowardly lionChat Icon )
My 7 year old who is ASD and non verbal had a tough time understanding what we were doing. He did put his costume on and participated. His ABA teacher came with us (which was so helpful because we had our hands full with babies) and she counted, 1st we walk, then we knock, then we get candy and then we go. And she used her fingers counting as we did it, after 3 houses to my amazement he got it. He cried when we went home. So all in all it went really well.

Em is 4 and really understood it this year. She loved going up and saying trick or treat. Most times she even said thank you by herself. She really had a great time. I was so proud of her!
