Basketball hoop for 9 year old? need some help.
I received the NY Cares Winter Wishes letter from a 9 year old boy, who wishes for a basketball hoop and basketball.
Now the program says most gifts should be $40 and under, but every basketball hoop set I see is a few hundred.
Any ideas or places for me?
It has to be tall enough for a 9 year old boy.

I'd go with a Nerf one like these from TRU. I'd guess they are in an apartment and won't be able to set up an outdoor one anyway.
Did they ask for anything else that you can add to the gift?

that's what I was thinking, too.
The child just wished for a basketball hoop and basketball. 
I just want to get the right thing.....I'm probably going to throw in some extra stuff, too.

I think he just didn't realize how much they cost. Even just a plain rim is at least $40 at Sports Authority.

I would focus on the ball. Even those can be over $100!

You think he meant one of those giant real ones? That's where I am lost. Maybe I will try to find out or something. I'd feel weird just getting him a ball. 
This is so ironic, because I know NOTHING about sports. I guess I should start to learn....

I know several 8yo boys who are on intramural basketball teams, and were last year too, so I would assume a 9yo is looking for a real ball.

I'd also include a small pump and needles.
And if I could find a cheap Nerf hoop I'd throw that in too, my neighbor said her 10yo and his friends have all asked for them this year.
