What hours do you work?
Do you do a lot of OT -paid or unpaid... In comparison to your DH.
An opportunity may be coming my way... more money a bit more travel but If I do my math right - a significant more amount of OT. 8am-8pm would be the avg hours - I believe. That includes paid OT.
Presently I should work 9-5 but never leave at 5... dont get paid OT which is fine - I do have a lot of other perks (work from home if I like, come in later -leave later)
DH and I are not on the same page - He is a guidance counselor and has a very different schedule.
Just curious what your life is like .. Thanks!

Re: What hours do you work?
Generally, 8:00-5 Mon-Thurs.
I work from home on Fridays and sometimes, will follow up on things before I go to work and after work at night.
I'm a social worker though and my work is never done.
For me, I need to create boundaries, otherwise my employer and clients will $uck the life out of me and then I would be good to no one.
ETA: DH is self-employed so he is always working, whether at home or out there.

Re: What hours do you work?
I do not get paid OT - I work past 5 and don't take a lunch. It is miserable and not worth it
DH on the otherhand is always working late till 6 or 7 and during his busy week 8 or later and makes not only OT but a nice bonus each month.
It is worth it for him and makes a nice diff in paychecks!

Re: What hours do you work?
Oh I forgot to add I get no OT either.
I am salaried.
I like the perks of my job (flexible schedule, working from home) so it evens out.

Re: What hours do you work?
I work 8:30-4:10 M-F, salaried & no overtime.
DH works 8:00-2:30 (teacher) M-F, but stays late a few hours most days so he ends up with a lot of "overtime" (runs the yearbook, website, and a few clubs).

Re: What hours do you work?
8-6 sometimes 7. Sometimes I start earlier.
Avg 50-55 hrs a week. I get paid OT, never take lunch. I can work from home sometimes and I sometimes log in on the weekends which I document in the time management system.
I think 8-8 is really rough. My schedule above does not include 3 hours of commuting a day.

Re: What hours do you work?
Roughly 8:30 - 5:30, take a full hour lunch, salaried, so no OT. 1.5 hour drive each way. I only work at home in rare circumstances when it's really necessary.

Re: What hours do you work?
I have VERY strange work hours:
M- 10-6 T - 12-8 W- 11-7 T- 1-9 F- 9-5
I do work a lot of OT (unpaid b/c I'm salary) but I do get flex time and comp time. So if I work any day longer than 8 hours, I can either work less hours another day, or bank it (up to 20 hours) to get time off. And I'm lucky that I take my hour break (almost) every day, and I only live about 10 minutes away.
DH works usually 9-6:30, no OT, but since he works in the city, he's gone pretty much from 7:45-8:30 or so.

Re: What hours do you work?
ok so here is my next question... would you take a approx 10k pay cut for a new job?
So it seems like a great job... I would have a hour and a half commute... no flex time. But again- i havnt been happy at my current job and this new opportunity seems really great.
Just looking for your opinions.

Re: What hours do you work?
New Job - so hours would be fairly predictable, but I would be somewhat oncall... I would be working with a former boss - who I enjoyed working with.. all in all the people are nice.
less money... about 10k less than what I make now longer commute and I have to drive
Current Job -
I take the train, but when I drive I expense things..
I hate my current boss and have been looking to get a reassignment of work as I am not particularly happy with my work as of now
I can work from home...when its needed
I feel like I have to be honest and say I don't want a pay cut... but I don't want to come across greedy... DH and I have plans and I worry about loosing 10k overall

Is hating your boss enough to lose the "perks" of your current job. IMHO it doesn't sound like this potential job offer is really the right job, if it was I dont know if you would be having such a dilema. I think when the perfect job comes along you wont have to sacrifice 10k or other things you mentioned.

Re: What hours do you work?
DH and I are salaried employees; no OT.
I typically work from 9:30/10 am to 5/5:30 pm. But my work is project based, so if I need to meet a deadline I will get up early and work from home for a few hours. On average I would say I work from 40-45 hours weekly (no lunch break - I eat lunch at my desk).
DH probably works closer to 45-50 hours a week but he works from home at night a lot after DD and I go to sleep.
One of us is always home by 6 pm and we both like to be home by 7 to have a light dinner with DD and get her ready for bed.

Re: What hours do you work?
There is something to be said for working for someone you like and trust. It may be worth a tougher job and longer hours.
Is there any room for negotiation? You may have more expenses driving than taking the train. It might be an even bigger pay cut.
If you can't negotiate, can you cut something in other areas of your life ot offset some of the deficit?
Is there a future with the new job within a few years that will bring you up to where you need to be? How are the benefits?
Sometimes it's not all about the money.
Finally, if you sit down with your employer can you tell them you got an offer and see if they will re-assign and have you stay? Maybe talk to HR?

I work from home. I usually work about 9:30 to 5. I do work some weekends as I am involved in working with charity events.
