Re: Homemade sauce?

I use MIL recipe that she learned growing up in an Italian neighborhood.

It's 2 large cans crushed tomatoes
2 small cans tomato sauce
2 small cans tomato paste
a dash of sugar
sprinkle oregano and basil over the top to cover and then stir in

brown garlic and sausage before hand and then add above ingredients.

I do mine in the slow cooker for 2 hours or so

Re: Homemade sauce?

2 cans Tuttoroso crushed tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
1 can water (use the tomato paste can)
1 tbsp salt
sugar
Garlic
Onions
fresh parsley
fresh basil
red pepper

Saute garlic & onions in olive oil. Add all ingredients except paste (see below)

I usually make meatballs w/my sauce too.

1 lb ground beef
parmesan cheese
bread crumbs (put two or three slices of italian bread in blender or food processor)
egg
parsley
garlic salt

Mix all together and fry in olive oil and 3-4 garlic slices.

Once meatballs are done, remove meatballs from pan, leave garlic in pan. Add tomato paste, salt and water and mix. Add to sauce. Add meatballs to sauce too.

Stir occassionally and cook for 2 hours.

Re: Homemade sauce?

My grandfather gave this recipe to my mom and then when I bought the house I wanted to get into cooking and sauce was #1 on my list.

2 28 oz cans of Contidina tomato puree
2 28 oz cans of Contidina tomato sauce
2 tiny cans of tomato paste
2 lbs of browned chop meat or browned meatballs
(browned) 3 gloves of garlic
(browned) 2 large onions
season to taste with basil, oregano, salt, pepper, italian seasonings

Simmer for at least 2 hours, I usually leave it for 3 hours.
