No time
We all make mistakes, myself included - have to put that out there. BUT one thing I just cannot get passed is people getting rid of their dogs because they do not have time for them. Dogs attacking your kids, etc., I can see but not enough time?! Esp puppies... in a few months, all of a sudden, you do not have enough time?! I find it so upsetting and disturbing. Not trying to start drama but it just breaks my heart to see so many animals being put down and for what... I hope they all find peace and happiness on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

Re: No time
What makes me feel a little better is that there are still very good pet owners such as me , you, and most of the people that post on the pets forum.....
I just wish that before someone could get a pet, they would have to watch an instructional video to see that its not easy at all... Yeah they're cute and furry, but they are hard work. Not as hard as a child, but its up there.Children learn to do things for themselves. Pets are defenseless and needy for their whole lifespan. People need to realize this is at least a 10-15 year commitment!!!!!!!!!

Re: No time
I totally agree. When my husband and I decided to get our cat...we thought long and hard about the commitment. We like to go away ont he weekends and would have to make arrangements for someoen to watch him. We knew that he would be part of our family and we would never give him up!!
I thank Julz33 for posting about him a little over 2 years ago!! He is the best little kitty!

Re: No time
I reiterate my stance - people buy/adopt/keep dogs because they are cute or status symbols. Getting the right breed of dog for your lifestyle is as important or more so than having the right home, or the right car for you. Nobody buys a car without doing research -- well it's even more important when you are considering a pet.
This is a living being, and the match needs to be right. Please, do some research before you get a Border Collie for a studio apartment!! (just an example)

Re: No time
No way would that work. Certain dogs do not belong in apartments.
I do have to say that good apt dogs are pit bull terriers, and greyhounds.
Don't buy while others die. Go to a rescue or a good breeder.

Re: No time
I was thinking the same thing when I read those craigslist postings. IMO, I think the solution is to eductae people BEFORE they buy the pet rather than trying to convince them to keep it after they already don't want it. I think the no time thing is an excuse for just not wanting it. One of those puppies on craiglist was only 5 months old!

When we first got my italian greyhound/mini pin mix, we lived in an apartment and she did great...she would get her exercise be doing laps around the apartment...now that we have a fenced in yard, she is in heaven

It breaks my heart too, which is why I have 5 dogs.....I have a hard time saying no.

im not surprised. trust me though, if alot of the people on here went onto a dog forum they'd be ripped to sheds. not necassarily that these people are bad pet owners, but there is alot of ppl on here who are pet owners who make bad decisions.

I am not sure I understand what you mean by "I am not surprised" but I think if you are caring enough to adopt a animal, take it to the vet regularly, feed it good, healthy food, train it well, love it, care for it, have it's best interests in mind, you are a good dog owner...
Not all of us are as active as you, but we are good dog owners. That is my personal opinion
