DOMINO (LIF poster) - you are awesome, I love you!

Seriously, I have to say, I read one of the most awesome replies of yours on the rehoming thread. I just had to shout out to you and say I think you are awesome. Thanks for being a friend to the animals. It feels pretty lonely sometimes and I am so glad to see that I am not alone.

Would love to meet you one day, seriously I think you are awesome!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Thank you for the kind words. I am always been an animal lover and have to say saving even one animal feels so stinking good. Everyday I see people just discarding their animals and it makes me so sad for them both...for the owners who are missing that something inside that makes them think their pets are disposable and for the animal that was betrayed and whose future is grim.

It is easy to get discouraged...I even did the other night when i didnt update my listChat Icon ...but your post really made me remember that there are others that are likeminded and that together we CAN make a differenceChat Icon I'm up for a get together whenever you'd like!Chat Icon

I looked at all the caged animals in the shelter...the cast-offs of human society.
I saw in their eyes love and hope, fear and dread, sadness, and betrayal. And I was angry.
"God," I said, "this is terrible! Why don't you do something?"
God was silent for a moment, and then He spoke softly, "I have done something," he replied. "I created you."

Nothing sickens me more to the core than people who decide once their pet grows up or that when a baby or babies come along that they just don't have the time anymore. The betrayal, the disregard, I just get physically ill how people can be such users towards animals, get rid of them like an old handbag that went out of style.

People never seem to stop having children when they want more, but they cannot find the time for a pet once a child enters the picture? Sadly that's the main senario I seem to read about and I just can't fathom how someone can have such a cold heart and think little of rehoming their pet. And the best is the "I don't have time" comments. Never stops them from having more kids, which will require much more than a pet ever will.

So Domino, yes I seriously think you are awesome and hope we can meet one day. It's rare to find people who value animals in the same regard as humans.Chat Icon Thank you for saying what I always say, always want to say but feel so alone in.

I feel like all I am reading lately is people having babies and tossing their pets aside.

I am due in the next 2 months and while yes it will be difficult in the beginning with the baby I could never imagine getting rid my my rocky. He is such a part of my family. We mad ethe decision to have a pet and that meant through the easy and tough times.

I wouldn;t get rid of my first baby if I got pregnant again so why would I get rid of my pet!!!!!!

Sorry if this offends anyone but I just had to get this out!!!!

Glad to meet you.Chat Icon

I have 2 dogs, they were my babies before DD came along.Chat Icon They are still my babies now. They are a lot of work, esp mine since my male is a biter. My dogs are very demanding, they are like children but we are so in love with them and so dedicated to them that they are family, "rehoming", getting rid of, tossing aside a family member isn't an option. I don't see how it is, unless you just see your pet as an object, not a family member.

You will do it b/c you WANT to. Anyone who says they can't find time, just doesn't want to. Bottom line.

Don't worry, it will all work out. My DD is now 3. She loves our dogs and they love her. It's as if they all were always together. Yes, it's hard and yes, dogs/pets are a LOT of work. But the rewards of unconditional love and companionship are far greater.

Re: DOMINO (LIF poster) - you are awesome, I love you!

You guys are NOT alone in your feelings.
I would rather die- would rather live in the street in a box- than ever get rid of my pets
I felt this way before I had a baby, and now after I had a baby.

Imagine the world acted this way towards children- "oh jeez, baby is not sleeping through the night, I'm tired, it's cramping my style, I want to go out and party, finding a sitter is so hard, I didn't realize how much WORK a baby would be- maybe I should just rehome it!"

Sounds shocking- right?
But why is it ok to treat our pets like that? Without batting an eye?

If you adopt a pet- you need to realize- it's not a car, it's not a piece of furniture- it's a PART OF YOUR FAMILY

If you can't hack it, don't get a pet.

I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but shyt like that really throws me over the edge!
I get physically ill reading about stuff like that.

I feel like everyone is so selfish when it comes to pets- I want a pet, I want a dog, I want a cat. Me, me me.
Not thinking that maybe they shouldn't be getting a pet...because they don't have the sense of responsibilty and committment needed to be a pet parent. But THEY want it- so the pet is the one who suffers in the end when they just give up! Chat Icon

I agree! I haven't been on this board in awhile because it was getting so depressing with all the rehoming, but I always loved reading Domino's posts.

Re: DOMINO (LIF poster) - you are awesome, I love you!

I spent 6 months looking for an apartment that would allow me to keep my dog, and finally found one a month before my wedding. We do what we can for what we love.
A pet is not an object; it is not an accessory, it is a living, breathing, FEELING being that loves you unconditionally.
All it asks from you is kindness, and a little love.
There's a joke that goes, "if you lock your dog and a loved one in the trunk of your car and come back an hour later, which one will be happy to see you?"

ITA.

I can't imagine giving away my pet because I was moving or too busy or not having time.

Heck, I moved from Australia to Germany with my two cats. It was expensive, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

I just don't understand how someone can just give away their pet so easily Chat Icon .

Re: DOMINO (LIF poster) - you are awesome, I love you!

I could never imagine giving up my pets!! They are part of our family and a demanding schedule will never change that...DH and I work a lot and that is why I have a dog walker that comes And not only walks my dog but plays with him and leaves him with a kong for a snack. I meet a lot of dog walkers before I settled on the one I have...she treats my dog as well as I do. I hate seeing these frequent rehoming threads...for me it would be like giving up one baby for another...

Lisa...I remember you and your story of your moves and how long your pet would be in quarantine and such.

I too could not imagine just tossing my 2 cats aside like an old bag....We may no have children but these 2 are our children and responsibility. and we love them!

Re: DOMINO (LIF poster) - you are awesome, I love you!

My cat is my baby.
As much as she could be a PITA at times and real needy, I would never ever consider getting rid of her or giving her back to her original owners.
My heart breaks every time I read Domino's post updates on the kill list. I would love to take in another cat, but Bella is a dominant female and wouldn't allow it. That's the reason I took her from her original owners.

LOVE this!!!

And I agree with the rest of you. I'll never understand it. My dog is as much a part of the family as everyone else. And all of them (not just the dog) take up a lot of my time and can drive me crazy at times...but I'm not getting rid of any of them Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't have any human children yet, but my 2 dogs and my cat are my babies. When DH and I have kids, I cannot imagine getting rid of my fur babies. They are part of the family. It will be tough, but it would be if we had more than one child. You do what you have to for your family, that includes pets.
