"dogs as accessories"

i saw this on the NFR post about fads/trends you hate.


and just curious.... what exactly makes a dog an accessory?

it seems people just SEE a toy breed dog and owner and assume its an "accessory"

i just dont get it exactly.

my dogs are NOT accessories.

do i dress them? sure do. thats THEIR accessories!

i think someone who uses a dog as an accessory is someone that totes the dog around, yes usually it is seen as a toy breed (well i can't even say that, it is usually the chi's or really tiny dogs). Bring them everywhere,dresses them up, shows them off...then a few month later...bye bye dog. primarily because either the person got bored or because they found something else to replace the dog so they can show THAT off..

Exactly what Red said. It is when the dog as a fad, not unlike the newest purse or cell phone. Like when people see a pet as a *must have for this season* and do not think about the lifelong commitment.
I actually had some stupid b!t@h come up to me and tell me I was a horrible person for having an "accessory dog" and that I should be made to carry around in a purse (she was at my mother's house and I brought Bruno to come & play with my Mom's dog). Needless to say I lashed back at her furiously, and she was mortified to know that I rescue, help rescue orgs & donate to ASPCA among other charities.

i still cant see toting a dog around making it an accessory though. i like to bring mine with me because i like their company.



i understnad the getting rid of it after a season part though.

ex: i was watching "room raiders" on mtv and this girl was like "im obsessefd with paris hilton and when i heard she got a dog i had to get the same one"
