This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
Just venting..
My co-worker has taken off more days than she is supposed to get yet her boss approves her timesheet.
She is taking sick days off for vacation days.
We don't ge PTO, they are broken out.
So she never entered her vacation on her time sheet in the past..of course she thinks she has time off and her boss approves it.
Judging by the calendar she has taken 17 days off. that's just what was put on the calendar, not even the actual sick days or other days she took in real time un-planned. She gets 10 vacation, 4 pers this year. We get 7 sick days. She has blown them all and today she put in 3 days before the end of the year.
I have 8 days to use and I can't carry them over. I get more vacation time since I'm here 8 years.
She is supposed to be my back up. She is here 20 months.
I'm sorry if this doesn't make sense..I'm so angry I can't see straight.
There's not a damn thing I can do but I appreciate you all letting me vent.
My co-workers are all annoyed too. We have all been here longer than her.

That's really obnoxious. Some people have no concept how their actions affect other people! In past positions I actually kept track of my "back ups" days because I felt like I was living at my office and he was never around. I feel your pain. What can you do?

That's exactly how I feel. I back her up and her boss is extremely needy.
In my self eval I actually put that I assist him too and that's the truth.
I feel that I'm here all the time and she comes in late and takes off early..never documenting it but I do.

Re: This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
I know you are venting, but are you looking as well?
This really sounds like an environment that favoritism is not going to change, but continue to get worse which I am sure is possible.
I think you posted recently that someone has passed away in her family. I know this sounds mean, but will absolutely be her next excuse.
I know people who have had awful experiences involving death in their personal life who use it to move forward..........not take advantage of their employer.
JMO.
There are employers out there who will appreciate you and your hard work and not stand for this kind of nonsense with their employees.

Re: This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
IMO you need to either find a new job or come to peace about the way she is treated.
If her boss is ok with not counting all her days then it is their business and while it is not fair its just the way it is.
I know there are people in my company who get more than others....
While its not a fair working environment there is nothing you can really do about it. You def do not like working with this person (from all your posts) and it seems like it is making you unhappy at your job so why not move on.

Re: This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
She also comes in late every single day and her boss knows it.
Yes, she is milking the death in the family thing. She tells her boss that she is leaving early to go to her mom's and goes shopping.
I could stop helping her boss when she is late. And then actually address the situation but telling him if she was in on time I wouldn't have to help you all the time.
I'm really at the point where I need to say something.
All of the assistants who work with her also back her up because her boss thinks that everyone works for him.
My boss has absolutely no idea this is going on. She has enough noise and a big enough job and this is something she doesn't need.
I won't leave a job considering she values me and so does upper management. The fact that her COO is blind won't impact my job decision.
I just need to grow a pair and tell him what I think. He hasn't asked me in quite a while because he knows what I will say.

I think you need to say something to your boss. Yes, she is the big boss, and has a lot of noise, but it is effecting the whole office dynamic, and she needs to know about it.

Re: This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
Stop helping her boss. Tell him that you don't have the time, you are working on something for your boss. Let everyone else do the same. Maybe then he will start looking for his assistant and realize her absence.
Let your boss know the real reason why you don't want to help her boss out.
I know you do it to keep the peace, but all that is being accomplished is that everyone is enabling the behavior of this slack-off. She knows it and uses it to her advantage.

Re: This just gets me angry and there's really nothing I can do
At this point, I would go to your boss with production issues.
Take note of the average amount of days that you are covering and show how it has put you behind on your tasks. Point out where YOUR boss's work has had to be delayed/put aside because of the constant covering. You don't want to be construed as a whiner or complainer, but showing a direct correlation between your work suffering and the excessive days you are covering is fine. That shows you being proactive. Be ready with suggestions other than "fire her", play dumb, suggest getting a temp or training another person to back her up.
Your biggest concern when you approach your boss needs to be your workload productivity and the quality of YOUR work. Put it to your bosses that you feel the quality of your work is suffering because of it. Hopefully, when your boss looks at it all there will be that "AHA!" moment and this chick's house of cards will tumble down.
It's frustrating, for sure, I don't blame you for being pizzed. As crappy as it is what she is doing, it's not your concern. If her boss chooses to allow it, there isn't much you can do. Let her do what she is doing and let dig her own grave. Continue to vent here, don't sink down to the level of gossiping with coworkers.

I agree with this.
Do you have an HR department?

I do and I have brought up other issues to them. They sympathized and did nothing. They let me "deal" with it.
New development. I was at a holiday event with her boss for end of year festivities. He pulled me aside and told me that he knows she's not the smartest but please help her. He has a soft spot for people who want to do well.
I had a small window where I was able to tell him that I help her every single day. I repeated it twice. And just when I was about to offer the most basic of constructive critiques he got pulled away. I was this close to telling him that if she actually arrived into the office on time I would be less resentful.
She comes in between 9-9:30 every day and I know she puts in that she comes in at 9 and leaves at 6 no matter what time she comes and goes. She is using her sick days as vacation days.
There is a temp that is dying for a full time position and she witnesses it daily too. It makes morale a problem.

If it's a morale problem then I think you should bring it up to HR & your boss.
