Don't know what to do

First, I am so sorry what everyone has gone through. Prior to this I could only imagine and would still feel so sad for everyone's loss. I guess it takes being in the situation to truly understand what this is like.

I found out yesterday that my pregnancy is not viable. Baby did not grow since last scan, and I am now 2 weeks behind. I should be at 7 weeks, but measuring a little over 5.

My RE gave us misoprostol to take and bring on the misscarriage, but I can't bring myself to do it. He also suggested I stop taking medicine (PIO, Estrace & Endometrin), but that could take long and the bleed will occur at any given moment. If I take the medicine it would be within 4 hours, and I could prepare myself, well as prepared as I can be.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon i would never want to experience another natural m/c. If i were you id have the D&C.

If you dont want to, the misoprostol is safe and im assuming youre taking it orally? Either way you will know when it starts... you will have cramps and things like that to let you know. But at least by taking the pills you can make sure youre in a comfortable place!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Don't know what to do

Thanks Ang! The pills I have to insert vaginally, and the doc told me within 4 hours it should start. I am leaning towards that, and doing it over the weekend. I just can't get past the idea that I will be inducing it and not letting my body do it. I know it has to be done, and as horrible as this might sound, I just want it to be over so I can start healing, both physically and emotionally.

Re: Don't know what to do

No. He did say if I wanted to do it over the weekend it would be ok, and I could go in for another ultrasound on Fri if it would make me feel more at ease. Which I will most likely do, because knowing me I will drive myself insane wondering what if we jumped the gun.

Re: Don't know what to do

I am going to be brutally honest with my experience. I found out I had a missed miscarriage at what should have been 10 weeks (but I was always measuring a week behind, so 9, and the baby had stopped growing at around 7).

I was scheduled for a D&C the day after I found out. Since my cervix was still shut tight and my body showed no signs of taking care of it naturally, they also gave me two "tablets" to insert vaginally the morning of the D&C to soften my cervix. They warned me that it could get things started, so I am assuming this is the same drug they gave you.

Doing this was, by far, the worst part of the entire D&C/miscarriage experience (outside of the emotional devastation of losing the baby). I cried hysterically for an hour after putting them in. i felt like I was the one "doing this" and ending it. Even though I knew it was over and I was going for the D&C in just a few hours, this part killed me and was the hardest for me to get past after the fact.

I just wanted to share my experience because it was really, really difficult to go through and I don't want you to be unprepared.

Re: Don't know what to do

I'm so sorry!!!
I had a natural miscarriage and was literally in my car on the way home from work when it started happening.
I think you should take the pills that way you'll know exactly when it will happen.
Again...I'm so so sorry!!!

Thank you so much, for being honest and sharing your story. I am so sorry taht it was so dificult for you.

But that is what my fear is, that I won't be able to move past me being the one to induce the miscarriage. Although I know it is over and there is nothing I can do, it is hurting me more still having it inside of me.

I definitely do not want to do the D&C, I can't go through another procedure, and especially one lke this.

This is awful Chat Icon Is it too early to do a D&C?

My RE brought up having it done, but I definitely don't want to, especially if I have the choice. I have been through so many procedures, and then to go through another one and a procedure like this, I can't. My doctor does not feel it is neccessary to do, as I am measuring small, even for 5 weeks. He is confident that it will pass and I should just have heavy bleeding and clot/tissue.

I never had a natural miscarriage but in my opinion, I'm glad I was able to do the d&c because it was one day, they knocked me out, and then it was over. It wasnt days of bleeding, waiting to pass tissue. Of course I dreaded the entire thing, and I had 2 days of worry before the surgery, wondering if I was gonig to start bleeding but I didnt. All I wanted was to be unconscious when it happened and I'm glad I was. If I could've been unconscious for the 2 months after that too I wouldve!

Sorry, Im no help. This was just my thoughts on it when it happened to me. I was thankful I didnt have to go through it naturally . I totally understand you not wanting to have another procedure, but it's a few hours then you're home and its over. And the doctors do it all, you dont have to do anything. I hope I'm not making you feel bad by posting my opinion.

Absolutely not. In a horrible twisted way, I find comfort in knowing that I am not the only. I hate that we have to go through this, but seeing everyone able to move foward and trying to put it behind them, makes me hopeful that this will pass and eventually it will get better.

So sorry your going through this. I mc in sept and was suppose to be 10w but was measuring 8w. I opted to have D&C the very next day.. get it over with not sure I can sit and wait for the tissue to pass. I have 2 children and the uncertainty of this whole process scared me.
Either way it happens its a very sad time and again Im so sorry. Time will heal you.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I am so sorry. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I have gone through a D&c and a natural miscarriage. I never took any medicine so I cant help you there. I understand what you mean about doing it yourself but honestly I wish I had that choice when I miscarried on my own. I did not know I was going to miscarry. I had gone to the doc and I was very early on in my pregnancy to know what was going to happen. I had my hcg levels done but before the doc got the second number to compare it to I miscarried. That was this weekend. I was in pain and knew what was happening. I went to the ER just to get checked out. I did not have any more pain after all the tissue came out. I have been an emotional mess and have not gone to work. I am going to try to go in tomorrow just to get out of the house even though I have no desire to.
The d&c was easier since I knew that I did not have to know what was happening since I would be asleep through the process. I did have cramping after through.

I am here if you need anything. I understand what you are going through.

Re: Don't know what to do

I'm so sorry you're going through this, and you have this decision to make Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I have no advice, I can only tell you my experience.

I started out with a lot of bleeding and cramping, and went to my RE the next day. Everything looked fine on the sono (I was I think 5w6d), but they had me come back 2 days later for monitoring. They did a beta at that time too. The next appt the fetus grew, so we were just waiting to see what would happen. We still had not seen a heartbeat. I got the call later that my beta went from 5200 to 812 in 2 days Chat Icon We had a trip planned to see my family in Florida the next day, and we decided to still go. The worst part was waiting to miscarry. Days and days I waited, and it ate me up inside.

I don't know what the right decision is, but I don't think I personally would want a D&C (only because of the surgical aspect or something going wrong). But waiting to miscarry was pure hell for me Chat Icon

Re: Don't know what to do

i have never had a d&c soi cannot speak on that...

but i have had 2 natural miscarriages and after the first i wish the second would have been a d&c..

i hated watching it happen..

a friend of mine..she has been through hell..5 times pregnant..5 mc's...(she is now over 20 weeks preggo so it does have a happy ending for her)

she had had 4 at that point..just went for her appt and no heartbeat...she called me bc she knew i mc'd natural and asked me how bad was it..she did not want to go for a 4th D&C.(one of hers was ectopic)..i said to her physically i do not knwo how it copares to a D&c...i was in pain..i had cramps..i felt like crap...but emotionally it was horrid and something i never want to have to go through again

she ended up taking the meds and told me later she was in so much pain she wishes she had gone for the d&c

i am so so sorry for what you are going throughChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Don't know what to do

Thank you all so much for sharing your stories and giving me some insight. We decided to take the medicine over the weekend, and I will stop taking my supplements today. I am going in for one last scan on Friday, just to ease my mind and know for sure that it really is over.

I got a call today and my beta went from 5,830 on 12/7 to 14,123 on 12/12. Anyone know why beta is still rising if the fetus is not growing?

ITA completely with this.
I had 1 D&C and it could not have been a better/easier experience for me. I felt so fine afterwards. I would not even for a second think about letting it happen naturally when I know I could be put under and have it taken care of for me. For me - the minute I found out my pregnancy was not viable - I personally wanted it out and taken care of as quickly as possible. I've heard too many stories of how long and drawn out natural miscarriages are and I knew that process was not for me.
Again I am so sorry for your loss!

I agree with this. I have only had a D&C and was happy to be knocked out so I had no idea what was happening. Then when I woke up it was all over.
