My kid is short and skinny...hand bone xray?
My Ava weighs 41 pounds and short. last doctor appt they told me to come back in three months if she hasn't grown in 3 months, she should come back and they'd send her for a bone (hand) x-ray.
I'm contemplating doing this. i was small as a kid too, i'm 5' 3 1/2" as an adult, so i guess she's going down my path.
do you really think it's necessary to do it??

Re: My kid is short and skinny...hand bone xray?
how old is she?
What would the x ray show? What are they trying to rule out?
I wouldnt see how it could hurt.

Re: My kid is short and skinny...hand bone xray?
I had DD's hand x ray done because she was falling off the growth chart and at that point was off and at negative 5%. They are xraying the growth plate in the hand. Hers showed she was behind by about a year and a half to two years. After doing that and having her blood drawn to check her thyroid and hormone levels the Dr said that she is just a small girl. If something was "off" in her bloodwork, a hormone therapy might have been suggested.
She will be 13 in just about a month and is still small compared to her friends. She is back on the curve but is under the 50% mark.
I am 5'5" and her father is 5'7" so I wasn't really expecting her to be the height of a model!!! We do have a thyroid problem on my moms side of the family so I did it to be sure there was nothing wrong. I didn't see the harm in having the xray done.

Re: My kid is short and skinny...hand bone xray?
She is 7 years old.
thank you for sharing your experience.
i just get nervous that after the bone scan there will be more and more unnecessary tests that are going to prove that she's "Small".
Sounds like it isn't so bad though. I think i'll let them do it.
thanks!

Re: My kid is short and skinny...hand bone xray?
I would have to look it up, but I think DD was 7 or 8 when we had hers done. For us it was just bloodwork and the xray. They drew the blood in office and we went to a zwanger-pesiri (spelling?) for the xray. Within a few days her Dr called me and we discussed the results of things.
Petite little girls are cute, but it can be a PAIN to shop for pants !!
