huntington learning?
Does anyone work there? How do they pay? I have an interview there on Thursday.
Now that we're going to own a house, I want to start tutoring, but didn't know where to start since I work in a tiny private school..

I worked there in the past...the pay is horrible sorry to say. I was working as a teacher assistant at the time and was desperate. It really was not worth it.Can you get into private tutoring?

i really don't even know how to go about it..even if i could make an extra 100-200/week that'd be awesome..
i don't have many connections to get tutoring jobs though, because we don't refer tutors at my school...

Re: huntington learning?
I worked there right out of college and was miserable. I only stayed through the summer. The pay was $10, and even in the summer the hours weren't great. Sessions are generally 2 hours, and because they have so many teachers you're usually given 1 student, so you're only there for the 2 hours. With taxes, I rarely took home more than $100 for the two week pay period.
Like someone else has said, if your student cancels, you get sent home and aren't paid. This happens more often than they would like for you to think.
Also, I had big problems with how they "taught". For the older students, they basically sat there the whole time and worked independently and only came to you to check their work. I also found that many students were given assessments and assigned work that was above their grade level. Since they were only exposed to it while at Huntington, it wasn't being reinforced at home or school, so of course they bombed the "post assessment". This was used to show the parents that they needed to stay in the program because they weren't mastering the work.

ITA word for word. I had the same exact experience. They never actually told me that when a student doesn't show up you do not get paid. They once made me wait for 2 hours and then told me that I won't be paid b/c student didn't show...I quit right then and there. I hated it.
Also, I totally agree that their teaching style is awful.

Put up flyers at the grocery stores, also look on Craigs List there are tutoring companies out there that you can atleast make $20 an hour. Huntington is just not worth it. And as others said their style $ucks. What grades do you teach?

I worked their also and I agree with everything that has been said. It is totally not worth it. There were soooo many times I was left waiting for a student who never showed.

I'm certified English 7-12..
I've taught an SAT prep course as an elective, 2 after school programs on the new regents in 2 different districts, and I've taught prep classes/review for the 8th grade ELA..
I've just never gotten into tutoring, and it would be awesome right now to have the extra money..
