16 week appointment today
I had my 16-week appointment with my ob today. It was a quick one, just blood work, flu shot, and doppler. I asked her if I could have a 16-week sono, and she said that I could have a "genetic sonogram," which is an optional one done between 16-18 weeks. I am going to go to Madonna on Saturday for it. I figure it's worth the $25 copay to see my LO again! After all, it has been over 4 weeks, which seems like ages after transitioning from the RE!
Additionally, despite my chromosomal translocation, and the risk of my child having it, we decided not to do an amnio. My feeling is that all my other pregnancies ended super-early, and the last one we know was for sure due to an unbalanced translocation. If I did an amnio on this child and he/she has the translocation, balanced or unbalanced, we still don't know what that would mean in regard to potential disabilities, so it would make me so much more anxious. I would not, for any reason, be terminating my pregnancy due to my child having a balanced or unbalanced translocation. In the end, DH and I decided it just wasn't worth the risk for us. G-d willing, our child will be born healthy, and at some point, we will have him or her have a karyotype done to see if there is any kind of translocation, if for no other reason than to know for fertility reasons when it comes time.
BTW, I truly love having this board.
