can i do this

OK so I interviewed at two places One place I really like and was hoping to get that job but what if the other place offeres me a job 1st. Is it okay to call the place I really wanted the job and ask what the status of my application is and that i was offered another job but was hoping to work with their company.. Is that tacky, too much, I’m not sure what to do.

I would certainly call them and let them know that you have an offer and would like to know if they are interested.

If they ask about your deadline, tell them. Also express that you thought the job was a good fit and you were excited after the interview..etc..

I'm not sure I would say this job was your first choice but I would somehow let them know you are "very interested".

Not tacky at all.

DH has actually gotten really good counter offers this way. He had several jobs who wanted him, but the one he really wanted hadn't answered. He contacted the one he wanted and told them he'd been made some offers, but wanted to work for them. He also told the original company he was waiting to hear from another company, and both companies ended up increasing their offers.

As long as you're honest, I really don't think it's tacky. You're actually helping them by letting them know you're really interested, and if they really want you, they will put together an offer for you. I'm sure if they want you, they would hate to lose you just because they didn't answer you quickly enough.
