Sometimes LIF makes me feel like a total ingrate
There are so many posts about this and that people don't like, things their friends and family do or don't do that bothers them, and 99% of those things would never bother me, or bother me if my friends or family did them.
Sometimes I wonder if I live in a weird little bubble. But, sometimes, I think I must be a total weirdo because they don't bother me...it's hard to explain, but maybe you guys get the gist of it. I would honestly never think about asking my BIL about presents beforehand (too big, too many parts, etc)...I would never think that inadvertently giving my nephew a kiss on the lips would bother my SIL (not that I french him, but his little bobblehead sometimes nails me right on the lips)...or that if my sister had her laptop open that I couldn't check my email quickly...insert more scenarios, etc.
Maybe I have a family and friends that truly doesn't care about things like that...but sometimes I see things on LIF and I'm like, OMG I do that! And I kinda feel horrible.

I haven't seen the examples you mentioned, but yes, LIF is very educational.
Do a search on curio cabinets, icicle lights, 50/50s, or any LI town name that may be considered anything slightly less than the absolute best place to live -- good reading!

Some things on here make me think there's a lot of personality disorder. Other things just make me feel there's a lot of whiner disorder.

I don't think you're an ingrate - I can't make that connection at all.
But I do think different people have different triggers. I am sure something that would make me come completely unglued would leave you shaking your head thinking "what's wrong with her?" 
Plus you're mostly going to see posts where people are complaining...for every "My MIL is so wonderful..." post there's a dozen "My MIL is a monster..." post.

I think it's the effect of all the overhead powerlines on LI...once you leave this crazy little island people are alot more normal & nice

 I thought I was the only one..half the posts on FHF leave me Or Because the things that bother those posters really dont even register on the radar for me!!!! I think most of us are spoiled living out here on LI. My friends in Manhattan and Queens call my commute/lifestyle here "paradise" because I dont deal with some of the crap they do (noisy neighbors, stinky subways, loud streets, etc). I agree there is definitely a LOT of whining too..

There are a lot of self-absorbed, entitled whiners out there. They must be joys to be around in real life.
On the other hand, they do make the boards interesting. I had no idea that so many women were this uptight about stuff.

My favorite posters are
"After working a full day, i come home and cook a 4 course meal from SCRATCH using only organic products of course! then I plan my meals for the next two weeks, then i clean the house from top to bottom myself, all while wearing my baby ! then I throw on some Victorias Secret and  for a few hours, I dont really need sleep, Im pretty perfect like that, then I come here and judge everyone who doesn;t do everything that i do" .....SHUT UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP your a liar

People around here get friggin' TWISTED about things that make no sense to me. And then at the same time, those people post a bazillion 'WWYD...?' and 'Do WE like.....?' questions. Inability to cope with the issues life hands you AND needing conformity. Wah, wah, wah.
I'm thankful that I don't know some of the people on LIF...and thankful for those I do really know! And thanful for people I don't really know who keep shiz real around here.

THIS drives me insane.
My personal favorite is "My husband did this annoying, but not threatening thing, do you have advice>"
and the response is "MY husband would NEVER do anything like that, NOR would I stand for it. he doesn't even leave the toilet seat up, we never fight, he waits on me hand and foot,and we eff like bunnies all the live-long day"
OR
"My husband is so great, he waits on my hand and foot at night bc I'm with the kids all day...isn't he sweet?"
and the response is
"WOW. I would NEVER expect my husband or any man to do that. You need to learn to take care of yourself. He's probably harbouring a burning resentment for you deep down inside"
