If you have a baby

Mason is doing amazing each day. Has some setbacks, but out of the blue he's had a burst of words
Lots of action talk to and saying what he wants

Only thing I still notice (and this may have nothing to do with his speech and sensory delays), but he totally ignores his brother.
He is starting to really play with other kids and no longer parallel play. Seems like he's catching up, but at a slower pace.

I just don't get why he totally ignores his 6 month old brother. Wondering if it has to do with babies being unpredictable and he doesn't like unpredictable things?
Not sure
He really loves kids his own age or more so older kids that he follows and usually mimics.
Any advise?

Re: If you have a baby

AJ is ASD, so my situation is slightly different.

hes has always been very social, he would rather be alone, but he doesn't mind playing or being around a lot of kids.. with that said.. he was 23 months old when DD was born... he ignored her for a good part until she was in his face all the time, or when she had something he wanted...

now he is 4.5 and she is 2.5 and they have a love.hate relationship.

he will call for her, as she does for him, they play together as well as kill each other...

give him some time.. right now at 6 months what can his little brother do? lol

Re: If you have a baby

My last 3 guys are 3-2-1. 3yr. old is PDD-NOS and the other 2 are typcial. My 2 & 1 year old play alot. My 3 year old tries but you can tell he just doesn't know how. (He totally ignores my 1 yr. old but tries to play with my 2 yr. old) I don't think it's because of his issues but because he's a baby and has NO interest in this toys. But then I don't know because 2 & 1 (I'll call them) are home all day together and will play with baby stuff as well as big kid things. Hmmm, Chat Icon guess I'm no help.

Re: If you have a baby

DS has classic autism.

He started "looking" at what other kids were doing on the playground and see what they were doing.

If we have another child, I know DS could not care less. He is not attracted to babies or anything. For him, it's like another object/"thing" in the house. More of an annoyance actually for him to take my attention away from him.

My son wasn't really interested in his sister until she started taking his toys. He would interact with her a little but for the most part he wanted no part of her. As she got older he had no choice, and some days they play nice, and others he throws her out of his room. Lol

DS and the baby are 23 months apart. I was extremely concerned when I brought the baby home from the hospital because DS showed zero interest, even when he was crying. It's gradually gotten alot better.

The "baby" just turned 1 a few weeks ago and DS will now notice him if he's around, they "play" in the bath together...play meaning DS pours water over the baby's head and they both laugh, hey, I'll take what I can get. Chat Icon He'll kiss the baby on the forehead when asked and smile or laugh after. He will not approach him while playing to include him, but that is still one of his social skill issues in general. It's developing, slowly but I can see it.
