My Birth Story
I don't post often but I always searched these threads right before I delivered, so I wanted to share my experience.
I scheduled a c section at 40 weeks when I had not progressed at all and the Doctor felt that inducing would be a nightmare. It had taken us over 2 years with multiple fertility treatments to get pregnant. Since I triggered to ovulate, the Doctors all agreed that we knew I was over 40 weeks. I heard a lot of comments about having a c section, but I followed my gut, feeling that I didn't want to go far passed the 40 week mark and trusting that the induction wouldn't work and I would need an emergency c section if that was the case.
I went into the C section really nervous. I had read a lot the night before and was nervous about the spinal and the recovery. The spinal was nothing, I was expecting something terrible, It didn't bother me at all. I did feel like I was going to throw up a few minutes after, but it subsided. I remember feeling really anxious once I realized that my legs were numb and I was going to be cut open. The time between the spinal and hearing my baby cry was about 3 minutes. I didn't feel anything but a lot of pressure. I wish someone had told me that when they are pulling the baby out the whole table shifts around and that part was scary, not painful. Lucas was 7lbs, 6oz's and 19 inches. After the c section my blood pressure was wacky so I was in recovery for around 4 hours. I got to hold Lucas for about 30 minutes and then my husband watched them clean him up in the nursery and he stayed watching him until I got to my room.
The overall recovery was nothing. I had the c section at 11:30am and was up walking at 8pm (with help). The next few days were painful, but nothing that I couldn't handle.Walk, Walk, Walk. The ladies on this site told me that and they were right. I was able to shower 2 days later and I felt so much better. I was prepared to fight the pain and really enjoy being with my baby. I stayed the 4th night because I knew when I got home that I would want to be well rested and ready to battle parenthood :)
Now, 3 weeks later I have lost 25 pounds, I am still breast feeding and I don't have any pain. I contribute most of my recovery to my OB who did an amazing job with the incision and did stitches instead of staples (my request).
Pictures are in my album :)
