For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
A few questions...
1- Do you prefer running outside over running at the gym on the treadmill? I find the treadmill so tediously boring and looking for a fun way to get back into it....
2- What do you wear this time of year for running outdoors?
I saw really cute outfits at Dicks but it was shorts with a jacket.. no pants. Do people really go out in shorts this time of year? I get that it's running and you get hot.... I just don't wanna look weird!
Thank ladies!!
*****
Ok another question which may sound stupid but I'm totally serious! What do you do with your water bottle? I feel like holding it in my hands while I run would be so awkward.........
(can you tell I'm so new at this?)

Re: For those who run outside!!
There is no comparison to me - running outside is 10000000x superior to running on the treadmill. I only do treadmill if it is pouring rain or freezing rain or over 100 degrees.
Right now I've been wearing running tights, a l/s tech shirt and sometimes a jacket - its been s super mild winter, but I'm not ready for shorts yet. I do have friends that run in shorts year round - If its in the 50s I wear crops.
Everyone is different tho!

Re: For those who run outside!!
Outside 95% of the time. 3 miles on TM is torture; outside its a quick run.
I agree with pp...TM for freezing or pouring rain...and dark.
I get hot quick, so over 40-45 I need light pants or shorts. I like wicking tanks for under l/s shirts.

Re: For those who run outside!!
I run outside and on the treadmill (in bad weather, when it is dark). I prefer outside, no question.
Right now I wear running tights, a tank, and a long sleeved shirt. Sometimes a vest or jacket as well. I am not ready for shorts yet, although my DH ran in them one day this week.

Re: For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
i prefer running outside, but during the week i have to workout before work (at 6:30am) and don't like to run in the dark. so, on those days i typically use the treadmill. it definitely sux - i did 8 miles on it once and it was terrible. but i find that having a good ipod mix helps. i'm also somewhat competitive, so when someone is running near me, i try to stay on longer.
when i do run outside in winter, i wear nike long pants and a dri-fit hoodie if it's below 40 degrees.

Re: For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
I don't take water with me unless I'm running over an hour and when I do I use a Nathan's handheld. It has a sleeve to fit over your hand so you don't really have to grip it. I hate hydration belts, so this works for me.

Re: For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
95% of the time I run outside (unless the weather is dangerous or it is dark)
As for clothes, make sure you dress for the windchill.
Below 20 - 1/4 thick fleece zip up with 2 long sleeve dry fit shirts and running tights, gloves, hat, something to cover my chin, cheeks, etc.
Below 30 - 1/4 thick fleece zip up with either a long sleeve or short sleeve dry fit shirt depending on the wind and running tights, gloves, hat.
30-35 - 1/4 light fleece zip up with long or short sleeve dry fit depending on wind and running tights, gloves, hat.
35-40 - 2 long sleeve dry fit shirts and running tights, gloves (sometimes), hat.
40-55 - 1 long/1 short sleeve dry fit running shirts with shorts, hat (sometimes)
55+ 1 short sleeve dry fit with shorts, baseball cap
ETA: Over the winter, I do not take water with me. I just got a water belt for Christmas and plan to use it on long runs over the summer.

Re: For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
I will only run outside. I need to wear pants.... I wear outdoor running gear. I layer but you are supposed to dress as if it's 20 degrees warmer.
I will wear a shell, a long sleeve compression shirt, and then a running jacket. Gloves and hat as well.
I never carry a water bottle unless I am running more than 10 miles.

Re: For those who run outside!! (edited with another question)
Running outside is a billion times better than on the treadmill. If I HAVE to run on the treadmill, I watch netflix on my phone and that helps the time go by a little bit.
Today I wore a lightweight shell, long sleeve tech shirt, tights, gloves and a headband/ear warmer thing. Running is all about the fashion I love getting new running clothes...easily half my wardrobe is workout wear.
I don't usually carry water unless I'm going 5 miles or more. On those runs, I either take my Nathan hand held water bottle or I wear a fuel belt. I've been favoring the fuel belt lately.
