Breaking through a plateau in weight loss

Ok.

The first 12 lbs came off easy.

I'm working my bum off. Between Zumba 3 days a week and the C25K another 3 days a week - I'm more active than I have been in the last 5 years..

How do you blast through a plateau. I've been at the same weight for about 2 weeks now. Haven't gained anything but haven't lost anything either... Chat Icon

Try changing up your diet. I find that carbohydrate cycling works best for me. I would also try to vary your workouts. Are you taking your measurements as well as weighing yourself? You could be losing inches but no pounds.

I changed up my diet totally. Went all In on fish- tossed out red meat.

I haven't measured. I think I'll do that tonight and track it. Thanks.

How does this work exactly? I looked it up but it's a bit confusing. What's your typical meal plan?

When i was doing it I took my usual carb amount of around 100 grams per day. I would cycle like this:

75 gm
100gm
125gm
75g
100g
125g
150gm

And then repeat. The idea is that as you are increasing carbs you are moving your metabolism along..then when you drop back to the lowest days value, your metabolism is moving and since there aren fewer carbs, your body burns fat instead of carbs for energy. Make sense?

Also- if this is too confusing or too much, you could have a "cheat" meal where you increase your calories onem eal per week to rev up your met. rate. I don't do a real cheat anymore while I'm training for competition, so I just increase my carbs by 50 grams one day a week

Re: Breaking through a plateau in weight loss

I hit a plateau a couple weeks back - right about the 12 lbs mark too. I posted here and got some great suggestions. I implemented a bit of calorie cycling, upped my protein a lot and changed up my workout routine. About 3 weeks later I'm down another 6 lbs for a total of 18 lbs lost! I truly think change and variety is key - don't let your body adapt to one type of diet or exercise routine, and try to up your protein intake just a bit and I bet you'll see a huge difference!
