LI Teachers?
If you don't mind me asking, how did you get your job? Was it through OLAS or did you have a connection in a school?
I am a NYC teacher (5 years- off this year for child care leave). I know many LI schools are excessing right now, but there are some leave replacements on OLAS that I applied for. I have used OLAS a bit in the past, but I have NEVER heard back. Not even for an interview. :(
It's depressing. I'd love to be closer to home for my dd.
Any tips??
EDIT: I was even thinking of applying for TA jobs. I don't mind a pay cut if I can get into a LI school and be closer to home. Is that crazy? Would they even take me or am I overqualified? I have two certifications (ELA and math 7-12).

Re: LI Teachers?
Bethpage HS has an ELA position...a tenure track one!
I was hired at Bethpage about 10 years ago...the chairperson contacted the math chariperson at my school and wanted to know who he would hire. He then called the chairperson at the school where i was student teaching and that chairperson gave me the message that I had an interview the next day. One week later I was hired for September.

Re: LI Teachers?
When I got hired on LI it was through an OLAS posting. Most of the time, I never hear back though.

Re: LI Teachers?
I have gotten one interview from OLAS.
I got my current job from working as a permanent sub. My district pretty much hires from within so once you got in as a perm sub. is was just a matter of time before you got a leave replacement and so on. Unfortunately they cut permanent substitutes so its harder now.
Good luck!

Re: LI Teachers?
My current job was from OLAS, but the superintendent where I was doing my leave replacement called over to help out. I'm in a pretty small certification type, so I had quite a few OLAS interviews.
My old certification was through NYTimes.

Re: LI Teachers?
I met a girl in grad school and became friendly with her - her MIL was the principal of a MS in Great Neck....so when they had an opening, my friend told me about it and I put my resume in. My friend alerted her MIL to my name, so I was able to get an interview...and then I got myself a job! It was only part-time, though...so I applied to different LI districts at the end of the first year, and was able to get a few interviews....and was offered a job at another great LI school. I was very lucky...

Re: LI Teachers?
I think mine was a NY Times posting. I didn't get many interviews from OLAS.
