Appointment at unemployment office - I have questions...

Has anyone been to an appointment at unemployment? This is my first one. The letter said to fill out the form and bring it with me, and bring a copy of my resume if I have it. Do I need to bring anything else? Do I need to wear a suit? Business casual? Jeans? How long is this appointment? Anything you can tell me is appreciated - TIA. Chat Icon

You can wear jeans. Appt is about 30-60 mins. Depends on size of the group. It's not 1 on 1. They go over services they offer. That's really it. No biggie.

As I remember...it was 3 years ago...the resume was just to out in their database, you fill out some papers, and the discuss the services available to you, they did a tour of the facility, discussed the training, etc.

They said there would be future meetings but I was never called again.

Thanks for the info. We already had a woman from the office give us a two hour seminar at work before we were let go so I don't see what else they can tell us. At least I know what to expect now. Thanks again to you both.

depending on the amount of ppl your packed into a room with forms to fill out and a rep gives a presentation on services available to you (Work Force). When that is done you sit with a WF rep for about 3 min to go over your resume and skills. Its about 45-60min.
I brought my 3yr old with me. It was easy and there is some helpful information. Im thinking about going to the Hauppauge WF to learn computer software skills.(Exel, Word, Power Point, ect)

It was exactly what you said. I like their SMART program that runs your resume through the computer and matches you with potential jobs.
