Question about gap in employment on resume.

I'm updating my resume as I plan to go back to work in the fall when DD starts school.

I have been a SAHM since my daughter was born, by the time I go back to work it will be 5 years.

Should I write anything about this on my resume?

DH and I have a small home business. Basically he consults and does back end work for a few companies websites and we build websites for small companies. It is a nominal amount of income and work. I do all the bookkeeping and find the work. Should I list this? It is all I've done over the past 5 years work wise but it hasn't been much of my time at all.

Absolutely!!

I know MANY moms in my field who only work for an hour a week but list that so it looks like they've been gainfully employed all that time.

You just need to list the company afterall, not the amount of hours worked ;).

Yes, I would include it. It's always good for moms to keep one foot in the work world if they plan to go back. However, an employment gap because of staying home to care for a child can also be addressed more easily than other types of gaps.

Absolutely. You only have to list the company and some duties, but not how many hours you worked. Even though you didn't consider it real work maybe, it kept your foot in the door in employment.

Yes, I would include it.

I was a SAHM for 6 years, I had a little consulting work that I included at the bottom of my resume. During my 2nd interview for the job I have now, I was asked "can you explain the 6 year gap", and I simply stated I was home with my 2 small children. Then, I reiterated my PT work that I did during those years.
