question about being sore and working out
So I started Insanity 3 days ago. I am obviously working muscles that I have not in a lon time because I legit can barely walk today lol. I was a lil less sore yesterday and I pushed through and did another workout. My question is, now that I am really sore, do I push through again and do a work out or am I supposed to rest. I am not in the best shape which is probably why I am so sore. I also had a c section a year ago and still feel some stomach pain from that. Any tips/advice? TIA

Re: question about being sore and working out
It depends on the intensity. I'd say be careful with your stomach though.
You might want to do something other than insanity--like walking or elliptical. Its good to get your muscles moving -- it may actually help with your soreness if you do something less intense.
I once heard that if you are sore for more than 2 days, you overdid it. I work out a lot and am sore for more than 2 days often after I do something new or do something I haven't done in a while.
Other ideas: Stretch! That will help sore muscles b/c blood flows to muscles and reduces soreness. Ice! Icing reduces swelling.

Re: question about being sore and working out
If you can barely walk you over did it. If it has been a long time since you have worked out Insanity may be too intense- I know the company suggests starting with a less intense workout like the p90. If you are having muscle pain take a couple of Advil, stretch and take it easy until you are feeling better. I would suggest a less intense workout for a couple of weeks before you go back to Insanity.

Re: question about being sore and working out
I'm starting month 2 of insanity on saturday and i was sore as hell the first week. I honestly did not think I could continue but did and was fine. Once I started the workout i didn't feel the soreness. The only time I took a day off was when I was having pain in my right knee. Took the day off, took advil and was fine by the next day. Good Luck

Re: question about being sore and working out
Workout through the soreness! You will get used to it with insanity. You do not need to switch to something less intense, because it is as intense (and can be less intense) as you make it. Do the reps you feel comfortable doing. Do less reps if you are in pain. I am a runner and was in great shape when I started insanity and was SUPER SORE the first week of the program. Hang in there, it will all be worth it.

I agree with Julz. My workouts are the Jillian Michaels DVDs and when I start a new one, I am REALLY sore. I push through it and modify it as need be.
