Worried about my cat

My cat Lily is 8 y/o. She is a inside only cat. Generally she is all over us when we are home. The past few days when I have been getting home she has been staying in the bedroom closet all night - not coming out to say hi or to be with me. When my husband comes home later she is usually waiting at the door, but she has been slow getting to him also. She is eating and drinking normally. And when we are all together in the morning she is acting like herself, just not at night.

Any thoughts?

Re: Worried about my cat

Cats are usually creatures of habit and routine. However, as they age, they sometimes alter their behavior too. Has anything in the house changed? Sometimes stress or anxiety can cause cats to change routine or act weird. Not to alarm you, and hoepfully not the case, but illness can also cause changes. If nothing changed in the home and it continues, or you see other strange things, I would take a trip to the vet just to be sure.

Re: Worried about my cat

Thanks for your response - my husband and I work all the time, perhaps she is lonely, maybe depressed? I was also thinking something may be medically wrong - but she is eating drinking going to the bathroom normally. A trip to the vet is a good idea.

Re: Worried about my cat

they can get small colds/upset stomachs.

I would watch her for a few more days and see if she improves.

If she demonstrates other signs - no eating, purring, playing, etc. then def bring her to the vet.

Could there be an animal or dog outside that scared her?

Re: Worried about my cat

read your post and I too have cats, I love them so much, and they give that love in return. I have 2 so I know how concerned you are, please let me know how she is doing, and by all means if she still is not acting like herself, bring her to the vet...Looking forward in hearing from you...Joanne
