Going back to school for nursing.
This is something I really want to do, but trying to figure out how to do it with an infant at home is proving difficult.
I guess I'm just looking for some words of wisdom or advice from anyone who has done this...or something similar, or knows anything nursing programs and what the best route is right now.

Good luck! Do you have a degree in something else already?
Do a search for the term Nursing on the career board and you will find tons of information. The forums on allnurses.com have lots of info (you can check the state boards for local schools info and the pre-nursing student boards for other insight in getting started). It's hard, but not impossible

nurses graduating from associates degree programs are having a tough time finding jobs. I wouldn't rule out associates degree programs but apply to bachelor's programs as well. Look at the requirements from each school and what you need to take. I had to take specific courses prior to applying. Good Luck.

A friend of mine had currently gone back to school for nursing... She has 4 children. The youngest is 5.
According to her it isn't easy, but she's doing it. Sometimes she doesn't even know how! lol

Since you have a BS already, you may be able to just go ahead and actually Master in it if I'm not mistaken. You may need to take some extra courses to make up for the fact that it's not in nursing but it'll probably be well worth it.
I know someone who had a BS in Computer Science and decided to go to nursing school. She had to take extra courses to make up for the fact that she wasn't a nursing major but she actually got her Master's instead since she already had an undergrad degree.
I would look up some nursing programs and talk to them directly. It can be difficult while you're doing it, but worth it.

You still need clincial hours to get your license and experience by working. I haven't heard of such programs for master's but I could certainly be mistaken. Usually these programs are for the bachelor's or BSN. They may be joint with the master's. Definitely look around. I'm only familiar with my local schools and at the time most people went for the associates degree anyway. So I'm sure things are chaning.

If you are able -look into to StonyBrook's accelerated program. You will have a Bachelor's RN in a year if you have the proper pre-reqs.
It is a VERY time consuming program though. I'm currently doing my pre-reqs now and have a 2 and 4 year old. AND am I am single. It is not easy but not impossible.
By the time they get to bed @730-8 ish I am so burnt out to study.
You will find that there are many women going back to school for this.

Since you have a bachelors degree already, I would def. try to do the accelerated program..if you do not work and do not need to work. Its a challenge but can be done. My cousin graduated from this, and got a job right away.
I am graduating from a nursing program this May.(wahooo almost done..I can't believe it!!!) I did an ASN program because I work FULL TIME, and have a 4 year old. So he was not even born when I started my pre reqs and was just turning two when I started the actual nursing program.
I know I will have a hard time getting a job, so I am going to move right into an online BSN program, but I can get my license, and I can work as a nurse while I do it.
So many options, you have to find what works for you, and your life. What pace of classwork you can handle. This is NOT easy, I stress that, but VERY doable if you remain organized and determined.

I went back and actually found it to be pretty easy so far as long as you keep on top of studying. Since many hospitals require a BSN in nursing I decided to do my prerequisites at a community college and then transfer to a four year school. Competition is intense so you need a high GPA and at least a B+ in classes like anatomy andphysiology.

Since you have a bachelors already just take your prerequisite classes then apply to an accelerated BSN program, don't bother with an ADN because nobody is hiring new grad ADNs these days in hospitals.
Make sure you do well in your science classes and you should be able to get in. Good luck!
