Give it to me straight. Puppies = hell?
I'm weighing pros and cons. Input appreciated.
TIA.

Puppies are great but a ton of work. The first month is usually the worst. It takes them time to adjust to new surroundings and house breaking can be a challenge. The puppy stage does not last forever and having a dog for a pet is amazing.

Agreed. It may be rough in the beginning, a few sleepless nights.. some accidents... it is a ton of work with training ... but eventually you forget about it. The reward of the unconditional love is worth all the effort.

I agree with the girls above, but take a look at some of the other puppy posts on here. After a month or two things will improve, but puppyhood lasts up until they are about 2 years old. Even at 1, my dogs were still babies and would have an accident or a setback. You just need to have a LOT of patience. Is it worth it? A thousand times yes, but it's hard work. Your life will revolve around your puppy for at least the first year!

Training takes a lot of time but the investment pays dividends. But it's likely something in your house will get ruined at some point...I think if you go into expecting there will be stress (in addition to the incredible cuteness), then you'd be ahead of the game.
I also think the temperament of the puppy is HUGE in determining how trainable it is! So take that into account!
I can't imagine my life without my dog

I agree with all of the above. But it so worth it. There is nothing better than coming home to a dog to put a smile on your face

So So So much work and effort.. Research the breed before you adopt .. Make sure that if you want a laid back dog you dont end up with a jack russel.. Just put in the effort BEFORE you even get the pup..
If you find a breed that you feel may fit your family then visit the dog at least 3 or 4 times before you adopt. I got a 6 month old Maltese and she was the easiest dog to train.. GET A CRATE... My biggest word of advice.. And get ready for the best love you can ever experience in the world.. JUST as great as a child!!!
