Upset for my daughter

We are having a joint birthday party for both our son adn daughter next saturday. I invited his friends from the class and they are all coming. We couldn't invite her whole class, so after giving it A LOT of thought, I only invited the girls from hers, because I didn't want to exclude anyone at such young age. Out of 7 girls I invited, only 2 are coming! That means out of 18 guests, there will only be 2 people whoare there JUST for her! Of ourse, there will be 2 coisins and a my son's 2 friends who are also family friends and were both guests of his and hers alike, but still...

I really should have invited both boys and girls from from her class that I liked and I knew were friendly with her, and not stuck to this girls only formula. I would have just loved to do that, but I felt bad not inviting all of them.

And now it's too late... Chat Icon

Thank you for reading, if you are still with me. Chat Icon

Re: Upset for my daughter

To be honest.. I think 2 girls is enough. If there were only going to be 2 people PERIOD.. that might be an issue. But you have 18 people and 2 are exclusively for your daughter. That will give her time to spend with those girls. Neither of them will feel awkward or left out because they will get plenty of attention from the birthday princess!

Actually, last year I only let Robbie invite 4 kids because whenever there are more than that we wing up with a few kids feeling 'left out' or kind of hanging on the fringe.

If I were you I would play it like this is the BEST thing ever! "WOW! X & Y are coming to your party JUST FOR YOU! You guys are going to have the BEST time!" If YOU are excited about it, she will get excited about it. Put a good spin on it and she'll feel like a rock star no matter how many people come.

But if you really want more kids, I don't think it's too late to extend a casual invite to anyone else! Look it as a blessing that all 7 parents responded already (I can't tell you how often I get last minute RSVP's the day before the event!). Now if you want to ask the boys if they want to attend, it would be fine. I'd even tell the parents "You know, I was only going to invite the girls but it turns out that I've got a lot more room than I thought and we'd love if you guys would be able to come!"

Re: Upset for my daughter

Thank you so much, Rojerono!!! I really appreciate your post! Chat Icon I needed to hear that!

It is ALWAYS what you make of it, isn't it? :) Exactly what I told her this afternoon: "X and Y are coming to your party, yayaya!!!" She was all happy! Chat Icon

I just felt really bad especially because a few people didn't even have the decency to decline until AFTER I e-mailed them reminding of the party. And two of her favorite friends from class are not coming. Those mothers, however, apologized and told me right away there was a conflict in their schedule. That is always so appreciated!

And thank you to everyone else who replied! I really appreciate the support!

I'm sure she will have a great time, and will enjoy the personal time she has with the 2 girls. Happy birthday to your DC !!!
