Happy Birthday in heaven

Today would have been my brother's 28th birthday. He died nearly three years ago and I still can hardly believe it is true. I miss him so much! He was one of my closest confidents and the only person who truly understood me.

I'm so sorry I hope you got through the day ok. I lost my brother almost 9 yrs ago (it blows my mind that it has been that long). Like you, I had a very close relationship w/brother. He was the only person in this world I completely trusted. I dont have a good relationship w/my parents so I honestly considered him my family. It is mind blowing and at time overwhelming to really feel the loss of someone you love so much.

If you dont already, I have found that having a special way to celebrate him makes the day just slightly easier for me. For example, I'll donate blood or platelets in his honor (my brother passed away from brain cancer) and I know that would mean a lot to him. I will spend some time w/his son, take him to a movie or out to lunch. In the past, I have also gotten a slice of pizza from the local pizza place where he worked at as a teenager and go to the grave yard to have lunch w/him. Some ppl think thats creepy or sad but when you dont have a choice in how to be close again to those you love and miss, you take whatever options you can.
