Attorney Salaries
Does anyone know what Long Island firms generally pay lawyers or paralegals? Thinking of going back to work for either.

varies tremendously. I can give you my thoughts on either one. Are you looking to go back to school or do you already have a degree. I think that paralegals get great bang for their school buck and get to do interesting work. With that said I am a lawyer. Salaries vary so much. In my area of law the firms steal employees from each other all the time with offers of more money for someone who is already trained. They approahc lower level attorneys in court all the time about this.

I answered your post on the FHF board -
Salaries and your chances of achieving "career success"will vary considerably based on the following facts:
1. law school attended (the higher its ranked, the better job prospects are)
2. your class rank and grades from 1L
3. your connections (if you have an uncle who is a lawyer and able to hire you for his firm, that helps)
4. debt level (paying 100k+ loan debt on a $35K salary ain't easy).
5. area of law (corporate/business litigation usually pays more than residential real estate)
6. Private practice or government/non-profit work. (a private firm will usually pay more than the Attorney General's Office or DA's office)
7. The size of the firm. Working for 1 attorney pays peanuts vs. working for a firm with over 5,000 attorneys which offer better 401K/health benefits/flex time/vacation, etc.
