Anyone a project manager?
Did you take a certification course?
More questions depending on who answers! Thanks in advance!

Sorry, don't know about that. I am in construction. Good luck, it is fun and challenging at the same time.

Re: Anyone a project manager?
I'm not an 'official' PM but since in my department I'm the most organized one I sort of get pushed into that role.
If you're looking to become a Technology PM, most companies follow Agile Software development techniques so you would want to also be well versed in those methods.

Re: Anyone a project manager?
I'm going to take some online learning courses at work to see if I have an interest.
I had the good fortune of speaking with someone who was successful at taking the leap from exec asst to PM and now she is a VP! She took a cert class over two years and has a professional designation.
I'm not sure I will commit to that just yet but at least I can find out if I'm interested.

I don't have any professional certs. Based on my experience I was given the title. Try looking on line for course, i figured I should get one and found some online that i could do, but in the end, i didn't need it. It wouldn't have helped me any.

Re: Anyone a project manager?
I need to get better at Sharepoint and learn MS Project.
Then brush up PPT and excel since I don't use them that much.

Re: Anyone a project manager?
I hate Micosoft projects, I would not even bother, it is not user friendly and a pita. You are better off googling PM templates and using some more user friendly ones. I HATE projects..ugh. I even have Projects for dummies and it doesn't help. I hate it. How many projects would you be managing? Do you have budget templates? Forecasting? Expenses? Those are the things I focus on, not so much schedule.

Not sure. Just getting to know what a technology PM would do on a daily basis. I know we use MS Project and lots of excel.
I just want to see if it's something I would like to do as a next step and if I would be good at it.
I've been in technology for many years on the administrative end. I've picked up a lot along the way and I'm pretty organized.

Re: Anyone a project manager?
Let me tell you what works. google project management dashboard. I downloaded a free one, and the name escapes me and it lets me put in all deadlines, project info, tasks, etc for each project and will email me when dates are coming up. I'm off tomorrow, but I can get you the name Monday. I tried a google search quickly and couldn't find it, but it will stay on your desk top and keep you updated on all projects...
Try a demo of project drive...not the one i used but looks really good.

For construction I wouldn't bother with any. I worked in construction for years before I went to law school and I got my PM title just by working my way up and that's how everyone in my company does it. I still work for a construction company but in a different role now.
