Alternative to allergy medication
My 5 year old DS get's very hyper on all allergy med's inlcuding OTC brands. He was so bad today in pre-k that I had to go pick him up early from school. Is there any other products to give him or home remedy to do?

Re: Alternative to allergy medication
You could do allergy shots but takes a number to be effective - also requires testing for what you are allergic too
if you are allergic to dust mites - they recommend washing sheets at least once a week with very hot water, put mattress and pillows in dust bags then seal zippers with duct tape
no rugs in bedrooms
no pets and a humidifier - dust mites don't like humidity

Re: Alternative to allergy medication
I read that using local honey in a diet is helpful with allergies associated with pollen. It was enough that I bought some for DH & he used it regularly in his tea.
Now he seems to be managing this season fine & I - who never really used honey - am suffering pretty badly.

I am hearing the same thing. How much a day did you use?

Re: Alternative to allergy medication
He would put a tablespoon in his tea. I can't say for sure that it's the reason he's had such a mild reaction but hey it's worth a shot!

I've heard about local honey too. There is a beekeeper not too far from me too. I should try for me and ds.
Our ped said that claritin is pretty benign, but it doesn't work for ds

This is actually untrue- dust mites need a high humidity to survive. I agree with everything else though.
I also rinse my kids' noses with simply saline- a few seconds in each nostril, then have them blow. It helps get the allergens out of their system.
