A tip if you are looking for work!
I was not looking to leave my job, but I have been getting a LOT of calls from headhunters the past 2 months.
I am about to take a position at a new firm for doubble my pay.
The new way employers are looking to hire?
LinedIn.
I got a call from a recruiter who was looking on LinkedIn.
Make a profile. Friend people. Find groups that are your kind of work ie: your a lawyer, look for lawyers groups. Admin work, teachers, reatil, whatever.
Friend anyone you know and even 2nd connections if you can.
Then let everyone know you are out of work and looking.
Linkedin really is the new "monster" or carrer builder.
Also, look up people in companies that you would want to work for. As long as its professional, let them know you are available for work. I want to give the caveat on that advice that I *would* ask people who know more about job search than I, and ask if THAT is good advice. But I am a skilled person in a small nitche. That approach WOULD work for me. Maybe not for you.
If you are on a Linkedin, add something to your profile. Chaneg one word if you have to. Then epople see you have recently updated your profile.
Finh headhunters who place for the type of work you do. Email and contact them.
Im TELLING all of you, its the way companies are hiring now.

I've been on there for almost 3 years. Even if you aren't looking for a job right now, it's a good way to make and keep business contacts.

True!
I do recruiting and I always looked on Linked In.
There are also groups you can join on Linked in - like job boards for your specific field- where employeers post openings etc.
It's a great tool!

Linked in is how I have been getting calls from Headhunter 4 or 5 a day. My issue is non of jobs are in NY

LinkedIn is definitely a great resource. That is how I got my current job - the company actually contacted me directly after seeing my profile on there.

You know, I've been getting emails lately about jobs and they said it was from "Careerbuilder" however, I wonder if it's Linkedin? All of them are out of state too.
I also updated my Linkedin profile a couple weeks ago so wonder.........
