Smoothies?!

Is there such a thing as a healthy smoothie?

I'd really like to start making something that is healthy and filling. I'm terrible at knowing whether something is good for me or not (besides the obvious icecream based smoothies).

I'd love if you ladies had any recipies to share. Unfortuntately, anything with citrus, spicy, chocolate, or caffiene is out for me. I'm an acid reflux sufferer and need to first heal my vocal cords before I eat any of the above.

Thanks!

Re: Smoothies?!

I make smoothies with a banana, strawberries, blueberries, and peaches. I also put in some lowfat milk & ice. Then I blend in a few packets of splenda or truvia. I find it to be very filling for not a lot of calories & gives me a lot of energy.

Does the kale blend ok? I have never used it in a smoothie because I was afraid it was too tough for the blender?

Two questions:

can you taste the spinach?

What are chia seeds?

You don't taste the spinach at all, which makes it super great. My kids even drink it and love it! (They don't know it has spinach in it)

Chia seeds are high in Omega 3, proteins and fiber. I buy them from Amazon and then I add a scoop to my shakes. In a shake, to me, they are similar to the seeds on strawberries. If they sit in liquid they kind of form a gel around them (sounds gross) but this is also why they are good to digest. They fill you up for a while after consuming.

Chat Icon I think the banana is what masks the taste of the spinach. Once I made it without a banana, and it did not taste as good at all.

I just eyeball it. I use about...
6 oz milk (I actually use coconut milk)
1 banana
1 tbsp chia seeds
a quarter to a third of a cup of pineapple
2 ice cubes

It makes a pretty big serving, but my daughter usually drinks some of it. She thinks it's juice, lol.

Re: Smoothies?!

I use a cup of almond milk, a scoop of protein powder, 1 TBS chia seeds and ice. I usually cut up strawberries and toss them in and eat them with a spoon...like a thick milk shake!

I have been making them lately with friut only. I buy frozen berries instead of adding ice. I add banana and maybe some watermelon. Whatever fruit I have laying around. So good!

coconut milk
banana
frozen fruit
if I have it on hand I add spinach
Sometimes I add a spoonful of almond butter

I like using frozen fruit b/c it keeps longer than fresh fruit and you don't need ice

Re: Smoothies?!

I like to experiment with different fruits and veggies until I find a combo I like.

This weekend I made one with a banana, frozen blueberries, a handful of chopped spinach, and a chobani honey nana yogurt. I also added some skim milk to it too and it was great! DS and DH even drank it! My favorite smoothies are ones that ive added greek yogurt to. Not sure why but I dont like to eat greek yogurt but if I add it to a smoothie i love it lol.

i use rocking' wellness shake mix
it's $$$ but it is an amazing product
I am off coffee (was up to 7-8 cups a day) and haven't had headaches.
it is raw & vegan
I mix it w/ almond milk, frozen strawberries, half a frozen banana, etc.

Re: Smoothies?!

I've been doing these three on this link... the Coconut Avocado, Chocolate Almond, and Vanilla Berry. All are yummy! Too iffy about the other 2 right now to try those though.
