food for my dog
I have a 50lb basset hound/bull dog mix. He 1.5 years old and is very active. He has been extremely nuts at night. Keeping us up all night barking and howling. My husband has found that feeding him gets him to calm down and come to bed. HE fed him a bowl of food at 4am and when I left for work he ate a whole bowl of food at 8am. Do you think we aren't feeding him enough? How much should we be feeding him?

Re: food for my dog
From what I know, dogs typically get 1 1/2 cups in the morning and then again at night. But, I made the unfortunately mistake of feeding my dog when he was a puppy when he asked for it. He didn't get fat, but it created a lot of behavioral problems. I wouldn't feed him to calm him down. He will start to associate being wild with getting food. Do you exercise him? Maybe he needs a good walk before bed?

He usually gets a long walk before bed, but this week was so yucky out we never went!
