WW and Pregnancy

I've been doing WW and have been doing really well on it. I just found out I am expecting and I want to maintain some sort of tracking during the pregnancy. Obviously the point system isn't going to cut it but is it possible to be on WW while you're pregnant for tracking and portion controll purposes?

Re: WW and Pregnancy

I've heard so many stories and heard women complain that they used pregnancy as an excuse to eat whatever they want and then realize that was not the right approach... and I don't mean to use it as a point system but to use it as a guide. WW is an excellent program and I think if there was a way to use that as a model to not just eat because I'm "eating for two." The reason I liked WW was because it's all about portion control.

I've been told the baby really only needs about 300 extra calories and I shoudn't really gain more than 25-30lbs during this pregnancy. I was thinking using the WW model of tracking and portion control to not let myself get out of hand.

I wouldn't count points, but eat the same WW recipes with bigger portions.

Re: WW and Pregnancy

I'm a lifetime member of WW and 18w pregnant. As soon as I found out I was pregnant, I stopped counting points. What I do instead- I follow some of the basic rules- get in my dairy, fruits, veggies, etc. I eat most of the same foods, I eat when I'm hungry and I eat as much as I feel I need. I'm letting my body decide what is best for me during pregnancy. I was at the very bottom my weight range when I first got pregnant so I ended up gaining more than most people do. I'm not worried because my doctor isn't worried. I also lost 60lbs the first time on WW so I know I can do it again.
WW teaches some great healthy habits. I still try and keep those, but I don't measure/weigh or count.

Thanks! I just don't want to break the good habits I've gotten into. WW really helped prevent me from eating garbage or eating just for the sake of eating.

I lost 20lbs on WW and was only 5lbs away from my goal weight when I found out I was pregnant. Obviously I'm not going to make my goal right now Chat Icon but I like the philosophy behind what they're trying to teach people.

I could see myself easily "overeating" for two and just need something to keep me in mindset of eating healthy foods and not whatever I want just because I'm pregnant. For example today I had greek yogurt and blueberries for breakfast, what I really wanted was bacon egg and cheese on a roll Chat Icon

I don't know specifics about WW, but there's a difference between dieting and eating healthy in general. There is no reason you can't eat healthy, normal amounts while pregnant. In fact, you should. You only need 300 calories more a day. I don't see why you couldn't do the same thing you were doing, and throw in one or two healthy snacks that add up to about 300 calories. LIke a greek yogurt and a banana. or avocado and some almonds. but, why don't you call your OB and see if they have someone on staff that can talk to you about your "diet" (I don't mean diet in losing weight sense, but what you eat and how much in general)? If not, maybe they can recommend someone. That way you can be confident you are making the best choices.
