Re: NYTimes Opinionator on Breeding
I posted this on my FB timeline, thanks to another LIFer who sent it to me. I liked the article but was disappointed to find out the author had kids of her own.

Re: NYTimes Opinionator on Breeding
I love this article & agree with so much of what she said. I also consider it a HUGE decision that weighs on my mind a lot & needs to be made carefully because it is so life-changing. It's one of the few decisions in life that are irreversible. I love how she talks about why a person feels like the need to justify to others if they don't have/want kids, but nobody makes a person with kids justify their reason for having them. Very interesting & true. Also about how pregnancy is sometimes treated as something that happens to a person, rather than something they choose.

I actually feel that the fact that she had kids, & still was able to make the points she did in this article, made it even better. She stays neutral through the whole thing & never tries to convince people that everyone should have kids or there's something wrong with you if you don't (comments I've heard lots of parents say) despite the fact that she is a parent herself.

Good article. I wish more people shared her view, or at least could appreciate it.

I agree... It didn't bother me that she in the end decided to have kids... she still put out there some very good points.
Thanks for posting the article!
