How long?

From start to finish, how long did it take for you to get your adopted child? And how old was the child when you adopted him or her?

it totally depends. If you are adopting domestically ( from the US) most of the time you have to wait until a birth mom chooses you. So that could be days, or it could be years. in most cases i think its withing a year that you're "matched" with a birthmom, and then you wait until you child is born

IF you are trying to adopt through the foster care system, you might get a call anytime saying that they have a child to place with you.

Adopting internationally depends on the country, the laws, etc. In our case we're adopting from South Korea. We were matched with our son last August when he was almost 9 months old. he STILL is not home yet Korean adoptions didn't use to take this long... but the Korean government is changing the way they are doing things and the laws so we got kind of caught up in all of that and it slowed everthing down. the good news is that now we're almost there... he should be home in august or early september!

We adopted domestically. From start to finish, it took us 2 years to adopt our son.

Ironically, we filled out our paperwork on February 20, 2010 ans our daughter was born on February 20, 2012.

My friend who used the same agency as us was matched with a birth family in 4 months.

You just never know.
