Re: Are you ambitious in your career?
Absolutely. When I'm at work, I give it my 110%. Also, a large part of what I do, is just who I am, so I find that I am doing social-worky kinds of things outside of work, as well.
I advanced pretty quickly from a younger age, and I found out really early on that management level positions are really not my thing.
Right now, I pretty much fell into, and "created" my role at my agency----something that sets us apart from MANY other competitors who do what we do.
My supervisor wouldn't let me go back to doing what I was previously if I wanted to.
I also have a path in mind of where I would like to be next.
I found that by sticking it out, when many others would've walked away, and just starting at the bottom, not b!tiching about problems all the time and just taking things one step at a time. As cliche as it sounds, many problems do absolutely have a solution, and aren't always "problems" to a client. A lot of stress we face in my field is in our head.
I also always try to go above and beyond and just let my work speak for myself. Networking is so important as well. This is always how I've landed all of my positions. And just by ASKING people in my field if they know of anyone hiring.

Re: Are you ambitious in your career?
In my current career, I am definitely ambitious. I am an associate broker in real estate sales. It was a career change for me, so it was a big change to start from scratch (after 9 years of practicing law at a large law firm). Also, working at a large law firm was very hierarchical and advancement was pretty lockstep (and also very political), whereas in real estate I am pretty much the owner of my own business and in control of my own destiny.
My goals in real estate have been to double my production every year. 2010 was a half year for me, and I did 10 times the amount of business in 2011. And I am on track to double my production for 2012. And after only 2 years in the business, I was proud to be named one of the Long Island Board of Realtors "Top 20 Under 40 Rising Stars" of real estate!
I strive to advance in my career by taking real estate classes and earning new designations so that I am continually learning new information to better service my clients. In addition, I always try to be innovative in my marketing and business development. I've found it's important to be able to differentiate myself from other agents and show the value that I bring to the table.
Also, I have a unique approach to real estate in that I view my role as that of a counselor or trusted advisor -- basically, I am a real estate consultant -- versus being a typical "salesperson." And real estate success is largely dependent on relationship building, so I am proud that I am able to build lasting relationships (friendships, really!) with my past and current clients. I think my background in law really helps me to serve my clients' needs and negotiate on their behalf.
All that being said, my ambition is tempered by a desire for a work/life balance, which pushed me to change careers in the first place. My goals are to build a productive real estate business with a steady flow of clientele, but to always have time for my family, friends, hobbies, etc. My goal is NOT to earn a million dollars but work 24/7. Achieving that delicate balance is the key to career happiness and true success, in my mind.

Re: Are you ambitious in your career?
real estate is also a second career for me as well
I have only being doing it full time for 2.5 years and was also named to the top 20 under 40 list- I was the 4th to be called and the first woman! that made me very proud
I also recieved many awards from my company this year- including the over all excellence award- and the fact that my 2011 numbers were so great is amazing b/c I spent 1 month not working due to me being very sick
I already more then doubled my sales from last year and it's only August- and I have so many systems in place I am able to work alot less then I did before and provide my customers with excellent customer service
I am always looking to try new things and implent new marketing ideas
I truly love what I do- and it shows
