Week of PD - NYC teachers (maybe others too...?)
Does anyone else have to go through this nonsense!?
I get really aggravated about it. I love meeting new colleagues, but I despise all of the time wasters that go along with it - ice breakers, etc.
I have YET to find a solid PD session at my school during the summer that is beneficial. I feel like they do it just because most schools are doing it.
We sit there every year and go over the same handbook, same sessions with our network, etc.
And I feel like it could all be condensed into 2 days - MAX....
ughhhhhhh - ok, vent over.
And yes, I know it's "optional" (not really), and we get paid for it...but honestly, it isn't even worth the meager pay to travel back and forth for the week (gas money, meals, etc). I'd rather keep my week of summer.

Yes, I'm at a charter school and staff is required to report on Aug 27 for a week of PD, and then we have another 2 days after labor day too. It's a total waste for returning teachers. We do the same thing every year and it is so annoying.

We aren't required but it has been offered before. I did it once. Like OP said, it is completely worthless. If the city offers something or an outside vendor does I WILL do that. To sit and do nothing is not worth the $ it takes to get there.

My brothers gf is in a charter and she has been going to workshops since last Monday. 2 weeks of workshops then I think school starts within days- that's crazy! Plus she ended a week later than the doe
